He was a wild and wooly one--and very loveable and lots of fun. He left the county for Oregon in the late 1940's or early 1950's (I think). He may have been one step ahead of the law when he made his sudden departure. That would be dear ole Uncle Bill... Bill's mother was Fannie Lou Reeves. She died when he was a very small boy--maybe 5 years old. His father (Linus Samuel "Hoss" Smith) remarried--his second wife was Callie Dora Keeth. She was my grandmother. Like Fannie, Hoss died young; Bill was maybe 14 when that happened. Callie remarried and Bill (it seems) was always welcome to stay with her and her new husband, Jim Malone, who was by all accounts a kindly man. However, Bill divided his time between his grandparents, the Reeves, in Henryetta, and the rest of his father's family (and his step family) who may also have been in Okmulgee County. I find traces of them in several eastern Oklahoma counties--Atoka, Bryan, Pushmataha, and Choctaw. Bill died in Oakridge, Oregon in 1960--mourned by many. He was so much fun! I used to love to see him coming when I was a little girl...One of his children married into the Britt family and lived in the county until her death last year. The others (now in their 50's and 60's) are still on the West Coast. If any of this gives you a clue to your William Smith, please write me. This is not an easy family to trace. Shirley
