    3. Posted on: Okmulgee Co. Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ok/Okmulgee/668 Surname: Cooper, Bingham ------------------------- I've done research in Beggs, also. I found my Beggs obituaries in the Okmulgee newspaper. The paper's archives were distroyed in a fire, but not before they were microfilmed at the local library there. My obits were from the 1950's, so I don't know if they will go back as far as you're looking. FYI-I couldn't find an ancestor of mine in the Beggs Cemetery and was pretty sure she was there. I went to Town Hall and they have the maps of the cemetery hanging on the wall. The map listed my ancestor, along with a baby I was unaware of, and gave dates of death. There is not a marker at the cemetery for either of them. I would never have found them if not for those maps.

    1. [OKOKMULG] December Project
    2. Hello all, In lieu of an actual Project, here's a freebie for you! (Let's also post to the list the main surnames we research.) Several times a year, Ancestry.com opens their subscription-only databases to everyone for two weeks of free use.  I realize this is a very busy time for all of us, but the new online census images will make it well worth your time to take advantage of this opportunity.   Their message: Ancestry.com is offering free access to all of its databases through December 21.   Included in the offer is access to the images of original census records that Ancestry.com recently began posting. These images represent a more true-to-life depiction of the records and are in most cases better than the original in readability.   Ancestry.com's Images Online are scanned in 256 shades of gray to allow for variations in tone. The entire set of U.S. Federal Censuses is expected to be online by spring 2001. Ancestry.com has been adding databases and is on target to have more than 1 BILLION records online by the end of the year. Sign up for free access today at: http://www.ancestry.com/home/celebrate/freeaccess.htm?sourcecode=674 - -------------------------------------- The sign-up form calls for your first and last name, phone number (placeholders work nicely), and a username and password. Good luck in your research! LaRae OKOKMULG-L listmgr. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okokmulg/index.html

    3. Posted on: Okmulgee Co. Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Okmulgee/663 Surname: JENKINS, CAGLE, MORRISON ------------------------- My great-grandfather, Columbus Allen Jenkins, died at Henryetta, Okmulgee Co, OK on May 4, 1904 at 46 years of age. He is said to be buried in an Indian cemetery there. A cousin saw the cemetery once but when he went back to try and find the grave, the area had been fenced off and under private ownership. We would love to find an obituary on him and find the grave, partly because we're trying to find the Indian ancestry in this family line. Columbus was born in July of 1859 in MS and married Charlotte Frances (Fannie) Cagle around 1891 in AR. She was born April 3, 1865 in NC and died Jan. 24, 1932 at Ada, Pontotoc Co., OK, buried at Rosedale Cemetery.

It was the first census that listed Indians and whites together, as by this time, whites made up more than 90 percent of the population schedule. The Indian schedule was at the end of each enumeration district. If you ancestors appeared on the 1900, they fulfilled the residency requirement for the Dawes Final Roll. http://www.choctaw-web.com/genealogy_8.htm <A HREF="http://www.choctaw-web.com/genealogy_8.htm">Click here: GENEALOGY 8 </A> Other Recent Uploads: Words of Wisdom by Shawnee chief Tecumseh you will want to bookmark and share with others. http://www.choctaw-web.com/words.htm <A HREF="http://www.choctaw-web.com/words.htm">Click here: WORDS </A> New Norma Howard Artwork The Misississippi Choctaw artist sketched Pickin Cotton, Raccoon Dance, Dinner on the Ground and First Day at School. http://www.choctaw-web.com/norma_howard.htm VANISHING RACE Written about the Choctaw tribe by Guy Augustus Crossett and published earlier in Oklahoma Chronicles. http://www.choctaw-web.com/vanishing_race.htm <A HREF="http://www.choctaw-web.com/vanishing_race.htm">Click here: VANISHING RACE </A> CHOCTAW MAP A useful map shows the Choctaw Nation counties in 1885 layered over modern counties. http://www.choctaw-web.com/new_page_2.htm <A HREF="http://www.choctaw-web.com/new_page_2.htm">Click here: CHOCTAW MAP </A> ************ Also: Well-Known Choctaws, including Moshulatubbe, Hudson, Pitchlynn and Krebs. http://www.choctaw-web.com/well-known.htm <A HREF="http://www.choctaw-web.com/well-known.htm">Click here: WELL-KNOWN </A> ****** a SITE MAP ito enhance navigation to various pages. http://www.choctaw-web.com/site_map.htm <A HREF="http://www.choctaw-web.com/site_map.htm">Click here: SITE MAP </A> ****** 1885 Choctaw Nation Census for counties of ATOKA , BLUE , BOKTOLO, CEDAR, EAGLE, JACKS FORK, TOWSON , WADE, KIAMITIA, San Bois, SUGAR LOAF and SKULLYVILLE plus 1929 Restricted Census. http://www.choctaw-web.com/census.htm <A HREF="http://www.choctaw-web.com/census.htm">Click here: CENSUS </A> Allied families include: ADAMS, ANDERSON, BOHANNON ,DANENHOUR, FLETCHER, FOLSOM, FREENY, GARDNER, HAMPTON, HEWITT, JONES, MACKEY, MURPHEY, ROBINSON, and TOAZ. http://www.choctaw-web.com/allies.htm <A HREF="http://www.choctaw-web.com/allies.htm">Click here: ALLIES </A> RESOURCES: O'Bierne's Leaders, Indians and Intruders, favorite links, artist http://www.choctaw-web.com/come_back.htm <A HREF="http://www.choctaw-web.com/come_back.htm">Click here: RESOURCES </A> ************ Because of my census transcription and website work, right now I am unable to answer all my e-mail personally but please visit my website to continue your search for ancestors. I'm in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It may take me a few days, but I'll try to at least get a contact name for you to call. It may not even be the same Wallaces; but, it would be worth the phone call to determine that!
