Lane) died when he was 7 years old. He was "picked up" by the Mexican family, Morales, and raised by them for several years. It appears that his father left some money with the Morales family for Charles' education. He was unhappy with them, however, and ran away after three or four years at Clifton, Arizona. So I don't know when he left Oklahoma. It seems that his mother, Sula Pina, was out of the picture by then (dead? divorced?) I don't have too much info, I know. He ended up in New Orleans, allegedly, from 1917 to 1922, where he worked at the McGinnis Cotton Mills. He contracted tuberculosis there, so moved to California, where he met my grandmother, and they became the parents of my mother, but gave her up for adoption.
