(Jack) Armitage, former long-time resident of Shawnee passed away in Mesa, Arizona Friday, 14 September, 2001. Jack was born in Superior, Wisconson April 22, 1925 to Leslie and Gladys Galbraith Armitage. After serving in the Army Signal Corp during World War II, Jack graduated from Aurora College with a degree in Business and Economics. In 1972, Jack brought Worthington Pump Corporation to Shawnee and served as president of the Vertical Pump Manufacturing plant. In that capacity, Jack travelled the world, meeting with leaders and management in 45 different countries concerning water pumps, providing irrigation, city water supplies and other to people all over the world and 225 jobs for local Shawnee residents. In 1980, Jack founded a new company, Western Technology (WESTECH) that involved the manufacture of submersible oil well pumps and motors. WESTECH sold to Dresser Industries in 1982 and Jack worked as the General Manager until leaving Shawnee in 1987. During Jack's tenure in Shawnee, he was appointed to the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission Advisory Council, was a member of Shawnee's Chamber of Commerce board of directors, heading the Chambers industrial development team, was a member of the Vo-Tech Foundation, was influential in providing funding for construction of the Mabee-Gerrar Museum and Art Gallery and presented the City of Shawnee and former mayor Roy Sadler with the Bicentennial Liberty Bell. Jack is survived by his loving wife Talma of Mesa, Arizona, daughter and son-in-law Beth and Jon Schwisow of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and son John Armitage of Reno, Nevada. Jack is also survived by his three sweetheart granddaughters, Laura, Kathryn and Rebecca Schwisow of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
