    3. According to family lore, Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Ellis Byrne Isaacs was shot and killed by a Thomas N. Sparks. The death date of Lizzie Isaacs was listed in family Bible as January 4, 1916. The 1910 census has Lizzie Isaacs living in Clinton, Custer Co., with 2 youngest sons, Richard and Roy Isaacs. I have found nothing since that date. She was born 21 April 1867 in Tishomingo Co., Miss. Her 2 sons, no date available, later shot and killed Thomas N. Sparks as he was being led to jail or courthouse for the murder of their mother. I would greatly appreciate any help on this as I've been searching for her grave for many, many years.

    3. What a sad but interesting and challenging story, Carol! I hope you're able to find more information on Mary Elizabeth Isaacs through this posting. I wondered if you had checked the court documents where her sons were likely charged, maybe dismissed, for the killing of Mr. Sparks. There may be something in those documents that would give you a clue. If you know the county in which they were living when Mr. Sparks was killed, it may list witnesses, county officers, judges, etc. The court transcript and other records making the charge against Mr. Sparks should be available for you to read even if it's on microfiche. Have you found where Mr. Sparks is buried? His obituary or funeral service records may give you a clue. I've found that funeral home records are a good resource on family information. A public library that has a good geneology research system may help you find Mr. Sparks' DOB, DOD and even similar information on each of Ms. Isaac's sons. The court transcript would be a good resource if you know what county the charges were filed against her sons. It should be the county where the incident occurred. I don't believe that Social Security Numbers were assigned until the 1930's so that information would not be available. However, birth and death records were usually maintained by the Bureau of Vital Statistics Division of Public Records for each state. If you know the state these people were born in, that may be a resource, too. Funeral service records for her sons (likely deceased since they were probably born in 1880-1890 time period since Mary was born in 1867) may contain information that could lead to the information you're looking for. Mr. Sparks' decendents may have helpful information, too, in their family history. I wonder if the town of Sparks, Oklahoma was named after Mr. Sparks' ancestors. Historical data about the founding of Sparks, OK may give you some clues, too! County historical records should have good information on the founding of the town of Sparks. I wonder if any of these people were of Indian decent? If so, tribal records may give you a clue, too! Carol, I wish you luck in your research. Keep us posted on your successes.
