I am fortunate to live in the State of Washington where there is an organization called WARM (Washington Adoptees Reunion Movement). Below is their contact info - you might want to email them and ask if there is a similar organization for Oklahoma, specifically the Lawton (Comanche County)area. Through a confidential intermediary assigned by WARM I was able to (for a $100.00 fee) get copies of my adoption file which contained all the adoption paper work filled out by both my birth mother (which included my supposed birth father's name) and my adoptive parents giving me all sorts of information to follow up on. I was able to meet some of my biological family - no, it wasn't a "warm fuzzy", believe me. However, I did find information that began to fill that void in my life as to who I came from. Just keep at it - it takes awhile but in the end it's all worth it. __________________________________________________ Washington Adoption Reunion Movement WARM Office hours are 8:30a - 1:0p Mon - Thurs. Thank you. Finding this website and starting correspondence w/ you are the only steps I've taken. I've prepared myself that this could be a long process. I just received an email from someone who found a Mr. Ralph Weidley not Weibley...who had a daughter born Jan. 7, 1970 .....it was the birth announcement from the Lawton Constitution. I guess that might be the newspaper? I've emailed this person back to confirm the spelling of the last name, etc. The other information like the time of birth, the hospital name, the date were all correct to my birth certificate. Thank you, Lynda Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Do you think there would be a lot of Weibley's listed? I haven't joined ancestory.com. I guess you don't have to join to use this message board. My birth name was Linda Weibley. Hopefully, the spelling of the last name is correct. I've looked thru past schoolwork to see spelling and none showed last name. My birthdate is January 7, 1970. I'm curious as to how you found out your name was Weibley? Often adopted children or their adoptive parents don't even know that much, as a new birth certificate is issued and the old one sealed? -----Original Message----- From: okoklaho-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:okoklaho-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, January 05, 2008 10:53 AM To: OKOKLAHO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [OKOKLAHO] Born in Lawton, OK, 1970 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. I just recently located the birth mother of my daughter-in-law, who was also born in OK in the 1970's. If you know the location of the adoption - county, city- you can start by trying the courts. If you find the court that handled the adoption, then try to get the records opened and get your original birth certificate. If you know where your birth mother lived, start looking for an on-line newspaper with archives and search for the Weibley name. It doesn't seem like a very common name so should turn up some leads. You have to get a few pieces of info to enable the search. Good luck. He loved to joke and give his brother a hard time. He enjoyed two loves in his life. The first was his pride and joy, Shelbi. She was his only child and he was glad to give her all the attention. The second was Shelbi's daughter, Violet. She could make her 'Pa-Pa's' heart melt. Wayne is preceded in death by his mother, Morna Baker; and grandparents, Chester Wayne & Ruby Baker.
