Lane) died when he was 7 years old. He was "picked up" by the Mexican family, Morales, and raised by them for several years. It appears that his father left some money with the Morales family for Charles' education. He was unhappy with them, however, and ran away after three or four years at Clifton, Arizona. So I don't know when he left Oklahoma. It seems that his mother, Sula Pina, was out of the picture by then (dead? divorced?) I don't have too much info, I know. He ended up in New Orleans, allegedly, from 1917 to 1922, where he worked at the McGinnis Cotton Mills. He contracted tuberculosis there, so moved to California, where he met my grandmother, and they became the parents of my mother, but gave her up for adoption. So He just disappeared, and I don't have any info about him after 1930. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Could have easily been a foster home, I suppose? Sula Pina=first and last or first and middle names? This looks like a tough one. So for sure in 1926, he's in Oklahoma City? Have you found him in the 1930 Census? I'd guess you havent? middle name or spouse name? there is a (Chas W Lane) listed in the 1925 OKC directory. I attached the image, I don't know if it's any help or not. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My great-grandfather, Charles Lane, is a big unknown to me. I'm looking for anyone out there that might have info or suggestions for me. Here's the situation: According to a probation officer report in 1926 (Charles had commited a felony), Charles says he was born 28 Dec 1899 in Oklahoma City. I have not found any confirmation of this in all my searching. He says his father (John P. Lane) was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma (date?). I have not found any confirmation of this either. He says his father died when he was 7 years old (1907?), and he was given to a family by the name of Morales for foster care. I have not found any confirmation of this. Finally, he says his mother, Sula Pina, was born in Muskogee, and was a Cherokee Indian. I have not found any confirmation of this. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I might go from here? Thanks for any thoughts. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
