    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: OkieBunch Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.oklahoma/3105.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Will Rogers grew up in Oolagah and/or Claremore in what is present day Rogers County. This is just outside of Tulsa. You might post something on the Rogers County OK board. there is also this: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~okrogers/ Also Muldrow is in Sequoyah County, so you might post something on that board. or you might find something here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~oksequo2/ There is also a board here at Ancestry for pre-statehood territories, Indian Territory. Rogers County and Sequoyah County are both Cherokee Nation, IT. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~itcherok/ There isn't much on that last link, so you might try another message board. I'm sure someone would have something helpful or at least point you in the right direction. Good luck. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: andybrandon33 Surnames: wilson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.oklahoma/3106/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My Greatgrandmother lived in Indian territory as a child about 10 yrs thru mid to late 1880s. Her mother married a Cherokee doctor who adopted her. Her natural father is unknown but likely had Native American blood. The exact timetable of their whereabouts is fuzzy, they ended up in Muldrow by the mid 1880s but before then, in the early 1880s, she lived very close to Will Rogers(within horseback riding distance). I know this because one of his older sisters was her best friend. I am looking for some record of her and I am aware of a couple of things that are out there somewhere..can anyone give me any guidance on where they might be found? 1-the first Cherokee school to open (the name escapes me now) was up near W.Rogers place..my GGM attended that school with the Rogers kids. her friend was Maude Rogers. Is there any info out there about this school; specifically a roster or in a perfect world..class pictures or photos of the school. my GGM would have graduated around 1887 or 1888. 2-my GGM was married in Indian territory in 1888. she had a marriage certificate at one time that indicated that, but it is lost. A wonderful person in Oklahoma found the marriage record of her mother to the Cherokee doctor..but that was in the Cherokee records. Was there any record of NON Indian marriages in IT in 1888..and if so, where might they be found? 3-Lastly, she always told the story that in her last year of high school , she was elected "Queen of the May" which was kind of like a homecoming queen I guess. She says that there was an article and picture of her in the local paper about that. How many papers could there have been back then..Indian or otherwise? Does anyone have a clue what papers existed then, and if any archives still survive? I would greatly appreciate any advice on where to go from here..my email address is andybrandon33@hotmail.com Thanks Reply Report Abuse Print indicates an unread message Find a Board Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: John308Glenn Surnames: Wilson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.oklahoma/3098/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great-grandmother's brother, Ben F. Wilson (born in Texas in 1855), was the second Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Although he lived mostly in Canadian County, he was enumerated (twice - in the households of two different sons) in Oklahoma County in the 1930 census. The archives of the Oklahoman have several references to him, and he is of course mentioned in various histories of Oklahoma. But I have not been able to find out when he died, or where he buried. Does anyone know? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: erea7669 Surnames: Bulkley Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oklahoma.counties.oklahoma/3097/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am still seeking an obituary or other information on Amelia Bulkley. She was the wife of Charles Gideon Bulkley and mother of Fred C. and Willard S. Bulkley. They are interred in the family mausoleum at Fairlawn in Oklahoma City. A RAOGK volunteer sent me a lot of articles and another got me some other articles from the news as well as the picture of the cemetery. Unfortunately, I still have little about Amelia other than some census images. She was born in New York in 1844 and grew up and married in Illinois. By 1850 her mother was already a widow, so I have neither the mother's maiden name or the father's first name. An obituary or death certificate may give some clues. Help would be greatly appreciated.
