    1. Re: [OKOKLAHO] Trying to find Samuel Harper Pate
    2. Beverly B. Evans
    3. I would check with cemeteries and funeral homes in the area to see if he died in Muskogee. Then I would get in touch with the library/genealogy society/ historical society to see if there were phone books or criss-cross directories for that time to see how long he was living there. There is one other avenue that might be available to you in the (sometime) future. The Oklahoma History Center in OKC is making an index of WWI Veterans who were connected to Oklahoma in some way. The index is being submitted by interested citizens, such as the members of my DAR Chapter. I submitted 4 forms for family members. You would have to be in touch with the History Center to see how soon that index might be available. If a form was turned in for Samuel, you just might be in luck, depending on the amount of information given. Good luck. We all need each other. 1. [OKOKLAHO] Trying to find Samuel Harper Pate
    2. Rhonda Houston
    3. In 1917, my great uncle, Samuel Harper Pate was living in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and within his job description on his WW1 draft rec'd he noted that he worked for the Red Cross while living in Muskogee, Oklahoma. His profession was that of a pharmacist and worked for the Red Cross. He remained around that area for as far as I can tell until 1930, and perhaps longer, which is what I would like to find out. Name: Samuel Harper Pate City: Not Stated County: Muskogee State: Oklahoma Birth Date: 1881 Race: White Roll: 1851891 DraftBoard: 0 He gave Marvis E. Pate Dole as his next of kin, who had been born Hosshars, Muskogee, OK...(as so was the spelling on the draft rec'd of the place in Oklahoma) dated on 12 Sep 1918. What seems to be conflicting information is where he was born. At one time Alabama was given and then, North Carolina was noted on an early census. I believe he was born in Butler, Alabama, although someone who gave information on Samuel in 1930, said he was born in North Carolina. Sometime before 1915, Samuel Harper Pate married Estelle May Warmack, a doctor's daughter by the name of Jacob Cero Warmack and Harriett Alice Rhodes who were both from Missouri. This marriage appears to have fallen on bad enough times, enough that a divorce appears to have taken place, because I've found Samuel living as a 'lodger' within a house filled with others' names, which weren't his wife and small daughter's names, that were Estelle and Mari Shari Pate. I would like very much to know what happened to Samuel after the 1930 census, when it is that I loose him completely. Having been born in 1881, my only guess would be that he lived until either through to the 1940's or 1950's, but I can't find him at all. Can anyone assist me in any manner, Please! Thanks so much for your time reading this. Respectfully, Rhonda Warmack Houston (rfhouston@mindspring.com)

Cole's older brothers remains unaccounted for. Thomas N. Cole was born in TN about 1821. Their mother died in 1874 and 1883 court records listed Thomas as deceased but survived by two children, names unknown. When her heirs were identified in 1888 only Thomas' daughter, Clara, was listed. All of the other listed grandchildren were identified as "only children of", but apparently Clara's sibling had not been found or determined to have died. I have not been able to find Thomas after 1850, but it is possible that he had a son who could not be found because he had moved to TX. A long shot, but worth checking out if your timeline is compatible with this family's. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
