I had a distant vague memory of the name of this town and thought it had something to do with my uncle by marriage born in Hearldton, Carter, OK. I followed your URL and found the cemetery with (surprize!) the names of my uncle's grandfathers on both sides, his father, and his brother and sisters., and an aunt on his mother's side. That doesn't happen very often when I follow my intuition. Previous to this I didn't have the place of death for any of these individuals. Never give up! Bettye

The Hartzell post office was located southeast of Arcadia Lake about 3 miles east of the Turner Turnpike entrance off I-35. Would anyone happen to know where Hartzell twp was located or Delphos? Trying to help a cousin in Texas find where her ancestors who lived up here when Oklahoma was still Indian Territory and where they might be buried. Thanks for any help. Janis
I don't know too much about townships in OK, but here is a web page which might help you. They also made the point that there might be several townships with the same name. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgenweb/okprojects/township-name-index.html ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, July 24, 2005 9:30 AM Subject: [OKCo.] Hartzell twp. > Would anyone happen to know where Hartzell twp was located or Delphos? > Trying to help a cousin in Texas find where her ancestors who lived up > here > when > Oklahoma was still Indian Territory and where they might be buried. > Thanks for any help. Jackie, I'm nowhere near Kent, Oklahoma but I wondered if you had any knowledge about the funeral homes in the Kent area. It's possible that the funeral home would have the information that you're looking for. You might try searching from deaths in Choctaw County in Kent and see if it lists funeral directors in the area. Some funeral directors collect a copy of the obituary to leave with the family. The information in the obit is taken from the family member(s) who helped plan the services. That director should have the name(s) of those next-of-kin who made the arrangements. When my family searched for my brother, we found the funeral home director (even changed ownership) had a LOT of information that had been passed to him from the former owner. The former owner had several books of OLD records that he gave to the new owner. What a find! The funeral director was a life saver! He even had a description of everyone participating in the services and what they contributed to the memory. It included the name of the minister, pallbearers, person who bought the casket for the young family and name of the person who donated his burial clothing, including a description of all! What a joy it was for us to find that information! My brother was less than two years old when he died in 1933 during an episode of heavy winds blowing sand and dust everywhere. People had to cover a lot of their things with damp cloths to collect the dust. It was called the Dust Bowl Days of Texas. My little brother died of dust pneumonia. I never got to meet him because he died about 18 months before I was born. Jackie, you might try writing to a church in Kent. Someone in the church may be able to guide you to some information that might help. The church COULD even have records of the family living in the area. BEST of LUCK in your search. I hope the bit of information I've given will help you. >From: "Jackie" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [OKCo.] Help at Oklahoma Historical Society wh >Date: Mon, 11 Jul 2005 16:50:34 -0500 > > Is there anyone on this list that would consent to look for >an obit for a lady who died in Kent, Choctaw Co., OK?
