According to the Historical Atlas of Oklahoma, an act of Congress in 1824 fixed the western boundary of Arkansas Territory on a line fourty miles west of the southwest corner of Missouri. The new Arkansas boundary cut throught the lower Kiamichi near the stream's mouth and crossed west of the Three Forks area. The Three Forks area is where the Grand, Arkansas and Verdigris Rivers come together just a short distance west of Fort Gibson. This made Ft. Gibson in Crawford County Arkansas until the boundary line was resurveyed in 1825 and found to be inaccruate. Sue
Thanks Sue. That's what this person had been told but didn't know for sure. I'll just forward this on to them.
