Mis May and Emma DUNCAN are in Vinita in attendance of their brother John, who was shot last Friday John KANAN, an adopted Cherokee citizen, about 60 yrs old was shot and killed near Caney Wednesday of last week. No clue to the murderer. Born to Mr and Mrs Pleasant PORTER this morning at Washington, D.C. a daughter. Both mother and daughter doing well. Dr J.S. FULLER has been appointed administrator of the estate of the late Wm PERCIVAL of Ft Gibson Robert C. HAWKINS drives the finest span of mules in the Territory, a recent purchase. 23 may 1889 John SALMON, deputy U.S. Marshal of Ft Smith, assisted by Marshall WEST, arrested Clay BECK, Tuesday evening near Joshua ROSS's place. He is charged with larceny. He came here af ew days ago with his new wife and was going to work on the foundation of the new hotel..... Mr. E.L. TYREE, of this city, was married last Friday last to Miss Lucy JOHNSON, of Carterville, Missouri. Mr Tyree returned Sunday bringing his bride with him. Private Isaac A. TRIPLETT, Co I, 18th Inf..station at Ft Gibson, deserted the service of the U.S. on Thursday last.

    2. 24 feb 1889 Married at the residence of Mr & Mrs G.W. ELLIOTT, on Thursday evening last, Mr Joe THOMPSON, of Tahlequah, and Lulu ELLIOTT of Muskogee, both well known young society people. Rev J.O. SHANKS, of Tahlequah performed the ceremony. The couple honeymooned in St Louis. They will live in Tahlequah. A poor crippled man, S.U. McCRARIE, who had been beggin the streets of the city, was found in poor condition on the prairies in the city limits. George WALLER, who found him, took him home to help him, but McCrarie died. Had come from WAgoner where it was said a faithless wife deserted him not long ago. 13 mar 1889 Reed DeBOIS returns from Alabama where he has been visiting relatives Died- at her home, in this city, at 12 oclock on last Friday, Mrs Hattie FULTON-SQUIRE, wife of W.L. SQUIER, age 34 yrs, 30 mo, 25 days. Leaves a husband and two year old girl. Three white men, near Webber Falls, Inman FLYNN, Wm THOMAS, and Wm NEWMAN, got drunk and entered a house occupied by Mrs Mary BARR a Cherokee widow woman and her children. They brok up and burned some of the furniture an dfired their revolvers off through the roof. They should be found and arrested. Died- Friday night last, Jesse MAYES, high sheriff to Cherokee Nation, died at Gibson after a short illness. He was on his road from Tahlequah to Ft Smith when taken sick. He was a nephew of Chief MAYES. Winheld STEWARD and Alec TIFNEY, two farmers near Sallisaw, Cherokee Nation, engaged in a quarrel Sunday last over a little misunderstand about a debt. Stewart drew his revolver and shot Tifney through the body. Tifney lived some four hours after the shooting.

He is the brother in law to SCOTT and will take the remains to Nebraska where his mother and sisters still reside. PHELPS intends to find the wife of Mr SCOTT and provide for her in case she needs assistance. 22 nov 1888 Died- Nov 13th at the residence of Dr CALLAHAN, of consumption, Katie, infant daughter of W.B. & Katie D. ROGERS, age 18 months 31 jan 1889 Will DENIS and brother, formerly of this place have permanently settled in Little Rock, Arkansas 14 feb 1889 Died- John McALLISTER, the deputy marshall, shot by Charles STEIN, at Purcell, a short time since, died at 8 oclock Sunday evening Wagoner- on the 6th inst. at the parsonage, Rev. R.C. PARKS officiating, George E. JAHN to Alice L. JOHNSON, both of Ft Smith. Their future home will be in Muskogee. 21 feb 1889 Mrs S.W. MARTSON, left for Ft Worth where she goes to live iwth her son, Edgar, temporarily. Mrs Martson will be remembered by our older citizens as the graceful dispenser of the hospitalities of the Agency when the later Mr Martson was Indian Agent at this point some 12 years ago. Mrs SHIRLEY, the grandmother of Pearl YOUNGER, visited the STARR Ranch in hopes of inducing Pearl to make her future home at Dallas, the residence of Mrs Shirley.

MOORE...born in the old nation in 1834 and moved here in his 12th year. His mother died during his early childhood and his father one year after their arrival in this country. Also a shorter memorial to Frank GOODEN Ridge H. HARLIN, son of J.A. HARLIN, has just returned form Calif. He has been gone several years and has come to visit "the old folks". 1 nov 1888 Missionaries married: Atoka, I.T....Wed Oct 24th, George W. HICKS to Jane BALLEW, by Rev. J.S. MURROW 8 nov 1888 Baby girl born to Wm LAMB, Sunday last. Dead- Edward NEAL died Thursday morning last, son of S.W. and Mary R. NEAL. Employee of MKT. Died at Sedalia, but buried here at city cemetery. "Capt Bill" (W.H. ROGERS) said he was born March 12, 1821. Married- Oct 31st at the house of Robert HAWKINS, MIss Martha HAWKINS and T.W. I was told that Ida was a cherokee indian. Ida married a man by the name of Willie Robinson without her family blessing (Willie was also working for Ida's family at the time they met). Willie was believed to be from Maco GA. When Ida died, we lose all contact with her family (Ida kept in contact with her mother Ann, Ida and her father was not talking). There were eleven children born to Ida and Willie Robinson. Willie Bertha, Bessie Lee, John Henry, Charlie B., Eddie Arthur, Claudia Mae, Katherine, Aserine, Mary Ruth and two other children that I don't have their names. This family lived in Georgia and moved to Alabama.

Unfortunately, my father doesn't remember their names. Could be your family?

    3. Faye, The 1890 Cherokee Census has the same schedules as the 1880 including Schedule 6 that lists whites living there under permit. The problem is that they list only heads of household, age, race or nationality, sex, employer, number in family and date of arrival in the Nation. It doesn't include other family members. There are records of people that had permits to be in Indian Territory but, like the census do not include other family members.     3. i am looking for the family of samuel clarence davis. he was born 5-9-23 i believe in wagoner/ muskogee area. his mother was minnie perry and his father was charlie davis. i also know he had an older brother named joe davis that died in ft. gibson on the railroad tracks sometime around 1940-50. samuel clarence davis was also called pete by close friends and relatives. his mother had a brother named harry perry and also had a brother named clarence perry. dont know anything about charlie davis(samuel's father). samuel clarence davis married several times. he married and unknown woman and had one daughter named linda davis. she was raised by minnie perry in wagoner county oklahoma at the baldwin peach orichard. he also married another lady and had 3 kids mark sharon and karen. married another lady and had 3 more unsure of thier names or locations. then married my mother anna faye strong (he name was alley when they married) they lived in braggs and worked at brockway glass and retired from there. samuel clarence davis died in 1999 in braggs oklahoma. my mother anna faye strong davis died in 1991. they are both buried in carr creek cemetary in checotah, oklahoma. samuel's mother minnie perry davis also married a man by the name of jesse holybee and they were married until she passed in 1973. i believe he was a pastor in the community somewhere. if anyone can connect to this family please contact me at lynnsherrie@hotmail.com
