    2. 11 aug 1898 Mr Ralph STILL, shoe salesman of St Louis, has accepted a position of shoe salesman at the Patterson Mercantile Co and went to work last Monday. Desperado of Indian Territory, Will NAIL, member of the Mose MILLER gang......shot dead in Braggs area. Body was turned over to friends and relatives in Ft Gibson and bured in the cemetery there. Muskogee building new mill and jail. New city ordinances of collectin stray dogs and penning up hogs go into effect. Sanitary conditions of the town will improve now. Free public schools begin. Miss Emma CARSON, so well & favorably known in the Muskogee as a caterer, will close the Elite on the 15th and return to her home at Sedalia. Rumor says that she will not remain long at her home.

    2. 10 jan 1898 Memoriam- Christie Dawson DERRISAW, great grand daughter of Rolly McINTOSH, former principal Chief of the Creeks and grand dad of John McINTOSH, of Tullahasee, died of consuption Jan 18, 1898. Beautiful personal words by her mother annetta DAWSON. She left a baby. Mona Gene BAUGH, three year old of Mr & Mrs R.L. BAUGH, died Monday after several weeks illness. She was buried at Greenhill. Mr & Mrs NASH, Miss Fannie NASH, Mr WILSON, Miss Emma COLEMAN, Charley KOEHLER, Minnie COLEMAN, Miss EIFFERT, Mr MILLER, and Mr Harry NASH of Ft Gibson, made a jolly party who attended the Rostell appearance in "Hamlet" last Thrusday evening. 24 feb 1898 Miss Annie O. COOK died Friday Feb 11 at the home of her niece, Mrs J.R. BREWER, after a long and painful illness....she was 71....she was buried in her old home of Kentucky First X-ray in Muskogee done to Al JENNINGS by Dr. FITE W.H. McELMURRY, of Carroll Co, AR died at the O.K. Wagonyard, He leaves a family of eight children, two who are very sick and are in desperate want. James STRANKS, of the firm Stranks Bros, died yesterday after two weeks of pneumonia....buried at Greenhill not sure of the dates of these...poss mar 1898.......but didnt want to leave them out as they establish the whereabouts ....and may poss help someone. Jeff FRANCES had his legs crushed while cutting timber near the banks of Ft Gibson Emma COLEMAN, cahsier at Grand Leader here,was married at her home in Ft Gibson last Monday to a druggist and very popul;ar gentleman named, Robert B. RODECKER of Huntington, AR

He has been transferred from Nashville, Tenn Starvilla is on the Briartown road, 15 miles southwest of Webber Falls, is named for the Frost STARR family who have erected a mill and gin there. 21 nov 1895 Dr M.F. TARVIN and wife, of Galveston, TX have bought a home here. William YATES, died Tuesday of wounds received in August. Mr Yates came here about the time the courts were establised and was janitor at the court house. Mr. J.A. TODD, living on SPAULDING's place west of town, died. She had been firghtened of the disturbance by Israel CARR and Dave BRUNER. 7 dec 1897 Dr Emmett STARR, of Vinita, is preparing the copy of a book giving a great deal of statistical matter relating to the Cherokee Nation, and also a genealogical table of some of the best known families. Robert COOPER of Ft Gibson was shot by his best friend. They both live on the Gibson bottoms. 14 oct 1897 Mrs N.A. PORTMAN, who the past year, managed the boarding house on North Main, died early Monday morning, aged about 42 years, from complications of troubles, the direct cause being heart disease. Mrs Portman came here from Denton, TX. She and her husband were not living together, but some days before her death she telegraphed for him and he was constantly at her side until death. She leaves two children, a boy Jessie and a daughter about nine.. The remains were shipped to Texas 21 oct 1897 The M.K. & T. railway has put in a new station about three miles north of eufaula and named it Wells, after Mr W.F. WELLS, of Union Agency, who served with the company some years as operator.

    2. 29 aug 1895 Obituary- Pleasant PORTER JR, younger son of Gen'l Porter was killed accidentally while scuffling with another young man. He was only 17 yrs old. Mr J.R. ESTES and family, of Mississippi, have moved here. He is with Muskogee Produce Co. He is a cousin to our Mr H.T.T ESTES Wedding- cards are out for the marriage of Miss Imogene HAYNES, the talented daughter of Mr T.H. HAYNES, to Mr Robt Maurice RAWLES, editor of the Athens (Ala) Courier, athe the Methodist Church here, Sep 4th. They will be at home in Athens. 5 sep 1895 Webbers Falls-Mrs Eliz HARLIS has purchased a new carriage. She has been an invalid for some while, but is able to take drives each evening. Mr C.L. HAYES has moved into his mamoth new store.....though young in years, but old in experience. Mr W.M. GIBSON is another merchant here who has faith in Webber Falls. Birth- baby boy to Rev & Mrs W.P. KING, Sunday Mr Al ESSEX, who got a hand cut off in a machine at MADDINS's Mill some weeks ago, has recovered enough to be discharged by his physicians. He will visit his hom in Ottawa, Kansas for two weeks. Warner CRAIG, about 17 yrs old, came to this section from Springfield, MO. He fell in with some fishermen from near Braggs, and while seinging in the Arkansas River he drowned. His body was found near Webbers Falls. Death of engineer Frank GREEN. His body was taken to his family in Parsons, Kansas. Mr David STILL, son of Judge RATLEY's wife, and Miss Bessie GRAHAM, were married at Campbell last Sunday. 14 nov 1895 Webber Falls-Miss Ella, wife of Hiram LINDER, and daughter of J. E. McDANIELS, died ath the home of her parents last night, nov 8th.

    2. 7 dec 1893 We regret to learn of the loss by fire Monday night of the dwelling and contents of Joseph ROBERTSON, of Choska. This is said to have been one of the best dwelling houses of the town. Mr W.J. PEEVYHOUSE, of the vininity oc Checotah, is now on the jail force. He is one of the best men in the country. Died- Tom GASSETT, of consumption, in jail yesterday. He was serving a two year jail sentence for larceny on two convictions; having received his sentence at the last spring term of court. Will ROBINSON gored in the thigh by a cow. 11 jan 1894 Obituary- Mrs Eliz SHIRLEY {mother of Belle STARR} died last night {Jan 4} in the 73rd yr of her age. A native of Louisville, KY she married John SHIRLEY in 1836 and settled in Carthage, MO, where six children, four boys and two girls were born. all of these children, except the oldest and youngest, turned desperadoes and died with their boots on. The Shirley family moved Missouri to Dallas, Texas in 1866, and shortly after their arrival, Belle, at age of 16, eloped with bandit Jim REED, who himself was killed the following year.........Ed SHIRLEY, a noted horse thief was was shot off his horse near Dallas in 1863.....Manfred, another brother, was killed in a fight with officers in Indian Territory a year later.......Allison was killed in S.W. Missouri during the war.....Mrs Shirly lived for several years off of the charity of the Methodist Church, of which she was a member. KILPATRICK, of Memphis, Tenn, cousin and brother of Miss Bessie KILPATRICK, arrived to attend her whos condidtion has been quite critical at times during past two weeks. She is improving now. (note from me: DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT A WHOS CONDITION IS???? Very curious) The Bachelors mourn the loss of another favorite member of their organization and the club house was draped in mourning over the exit of a comrade. Mr J.A. BAILEY has left the ranks for good, as he married Miss Mattie MURPHY at the home of the bride's parents at 3 oclock yesterday.....Mr Bailey is one of the force of efficient clerks at Capt SEVERs store......Miss Murphy is the daughter of Mr & Mrs C.M. MURPHY who lives east of town. Wedding-Wm A. MADDIN, prosperous architect and builder, of Muskogee and Miss Letitia BERTHOLF were quietly married at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs Otto ZUFALL, Monday evening. Miss Bertholf, a native Cherokee, and connected with one of the best families in the Nation, was also sister to the late Mrs Pleasant PORTER.

    2. 21 jul 1892 Married- at the residence of Mr A.P. McKELLOP on Sunday evening last, Mr A.E. McKELLOP and Miss Hattie SMITH, both of Sapulpa, I.T. Mr McKellop is the National Tax Collector for the Creek Nation. They will honeymoon in Texas. Died- John PORTER, of teh Indian Police force, died here Friday evening last of complications {brain tumor}. He had come in from near Okmulgee for medical help from Dr FITE. He was a cousin to Pleasant PORTER. Mrs CRANE, who has been conductin a boarding house for several years in Muskogee has disposed of her property to Mrs SMITH. She and her family live in Oklahoma. 28 jul 1892 Webbers Falls- Mr J.E. CLAYTON, renter on one of Mr R.F. BLACKTONEs farms near town was kicked by a vicious mule last Wednesday and died that same night. Mrs Emma HANKS, has a pleasant home on the river two miles below Webbers Falls. R.E. BLACKSTONE is in Manitou Springs, Col trying to recover from the "afflictions of loss" that he has passed through for the last two years. Stever McDANIEL, who lives 8 or 10 miles out on the Muskogee Road is again dangerously sick. Bride and groom, Lee CRYER and Miss Delila E. BOURASSA will spend their honeymoon in Parsons, Kansas.

    2. 14 jul 1892 Obituary- died in this city, Sunday morning, after an illness of two weeks, Mrs Hattie PORTER, wife of Gen. Pleasant PORTER. She was born in the Cherokee Nation near Claremore, August 18, 1861. Her maiden name was BERTHOLF. She was married here at the Presbyterian School May 26, 1886. She has a little girl three years old. {Large story of her work with the Creeks and Cherokees} Webbers Falls- Mrs Susan LYNDER looses a fine new barn to fire. Married- James S. DAVENPORT, a young Muskogee lawyer, married Tuesday evening to Miss Gulielam ROSS, of Tahlequah. Miss Ross is a niece of Governor ROSS. The bride and groom left for St Louis Mr G.J. MACKEY, from near Vann's Ford on teh Verdigris, brought in an unusual wagon load of prehistoric bones that he discoverd about 18 feet undersoil. Died- Bert GOULD, ten year old son of Mr GOULD, M.K. & T. yard sweeper, died when he slipped trying to board an incoming train.

    2. 11 feb 1892 One house and lot for sale in the town of Muskogee to the highest bidder, known as the Estate of Jesse FRANKLIN. The lot is on the street next to the Presbyterian School House. Signed: Rose CAESAR, Meleldin THOMPSON; heirs of Jesse FRANKLIN. Obituary- Amos BEAVER, age 20 years, died at his uncle's residence, George B. PERRYMAN, Tuesday night, Feb 2nd of Pulmonary Consumption; after a lingering illness of several months. His body was buried in the Old Perryman graveyard, four miles south of Tulsa. Miss Lizzie WARE lost her home to flames. 18 feb 1892 Webbers Falls- Married at Bentonville, AR, on the 10th inst, Mr Frank BELL of W.F., and Miss Stella WATSON, of the former place. Mr Robert McDANIEL, one of our best know Cherokee citizens has moved into town from his ranch for the purpose of schooling his grandchildren Mr and Mrs J.E. FUNCHESS, with a number of friends, will celebrate their fifth anniversary at their residence on the east side. Birth- H.O. SHEPARD has made happy Tuesday last by a nine pound boy. 25 feb 1892 Twenty-five colored families from Sequoyah District, Cherokee Nation, departed last week for Liberia where they will live in the future. Webbers Falls- Judge G.B. FOREMAN dropped dead this morning July 4th {presumably from heart disease} while walking in his field near his home east of the Illinois River.

    2. 13 aug 1891 Mrs HARRIS, alias Pearl REED, was before the Commissioner FOSTER at S. McAlester last Thursday charged with illegal cohabitation with Joe COLBURN, of Tamaha, Choctaw Nation. Her attorneys succeeded in getting her charges changed to fornication. Died- Charley MILLER, four year old son of Noah MILLER, living 10 miles south of Muskogee. Died of drinking patent chill tonic........ Judge S.O. HINDS and family, of Kansas are expected to arrive in the city today. They will occupy the ROBINSON place on east side. Maj. Wm NELSON has decided to move his family back to Evansville, Ind, in order to have his children in superior schools of that area. We are sorry to loose the Misses Nelsons who have been such an acquistion to our society. 20 aug 1891 Hall of Alpha Lodge (A.F. & A.M. #12), Ft Gibson, July 27, '91 issue a Memoriam to Wm P. ROSS. Memoriam- Andrew ROSS, 76 years, one of the oldest sand most respected Cherokee citizens died at his home near Webbers Falls on the 29th of July, and was buried by Masons honors by the Webbers Falls lodge. Biography on Candidate L.C. PERRYMAN, running for second term of Chief of the Creek Nation: he was born at Sodom, Creek Nation, I.T. March 1, 1838. Parents: Lewis PERRYMAN, Big Spring town, and Ellen PERRYMAN, nee WINSLETT, of Hechittee town. Emigrated to this nation from the old Creek Nation in Alabama, 1828. He is the oldest of many children. He served in the Civil War, Union Army in Kansas Company I________-rest unreadable

    2. 12 feb 1891 Died- James HENDRICKS, son of G.W. HENDRICKS, of Muskogee, was killed instantly by a switch engine at the M.K. & T. yard Sunday. He was 14 years old. Beauregard TORRANS returns from McGregor, Texas where he attended the funeral of his only daughter, Katherine May, age 5, who died June 29th. 6 aug 1891 Despite denials it is a fact that Miss Pearl REED, daughter of Belle STARR, was recently married to Will HARRIS, of Holden, MO. The license was issued by T.N. FOSTER of S. McAlester, and Parson BARNHILL, who lives five miles south of Whitefield, I.T. perforned the ceremony. Many old residents of the city who knew Capt A.M. PETTIGREW, formerly in the insurance business in this city with Mr A.A. ENGART, will be pained to learn of his death which occured July 29th at Bedore, VA Mr Thomas BURDEN, Holden, MO, father of the boy who drowned two months ago athe Arkansas ferry was in town to investigate. KILPATRICK, of Memphis, Tenn., cpousin and brother of Miss Bessie KILPATRICK, arrived to attend her (Miss Bessie) whos condition has been quite critical at times during the past two weeks."

    2. 9 oct 1890 Webber Falls- Ben HAYES and family arrived last Wednesday. They will make Webber Falls their home in the future. Death- Joe NAIL, Choctaw Indian, from S. Canadian. Was known to those in Indian Territory as he was of the Indian Police and Deputy Marshall in the Choctaw Nation. {Various stories revolving around NAIL's murder occur in future weeks' paper} 5 feb 1891 Obituary- Miss Kate WARREN died Saturday evening last. She was a primary teacher at the Harrell Institute. A native of Missouri. Her sister, Mrs J.H. GIBSON, of St Louis, was notified of her illness, but could not reach her bedside before death....will be buried at St Louis. Obituar- Albert J. GENTRY, died at Bacone University, Feb 1, at 17 years of age. Was the eldest son of William E. and Sallie GENTRY. Died- at Braggs, I.T. on Thursday last week, the little four year old child of Frank MANAHAN, who was shot and instantly killed by her brother, eight years old. The little girl was sitting on a rocking chair and the little boy picked up a winchester and while playing with it the gun discharged killing the little one. Married-at the Wellington Hotel, Sunday Feb 1, by Rev .D CROSBY, Mr Richard DOWNING to Miss Jennie JOHNSON. About fifty guests witnessed the ceremony and sat down to an elegant dinner. May they never have cause to regret the vows made at the marriage alter. Braggs has two general merchandise stores and "both are good". One is Mr J. J. PATRICK's and the other is COOKSON & MADDINS. Killed- Gov McINTOSH, Creek light-horseman, {story of the shooting} He was buried in Muskogee.

Taylor CHISSOE has put in a ferry boat at the Arkansas bridge and parties living near Wagoner, Gibson, or Wybark will find it convient. Minnie B. & Morris E. GILMORE, children of Mr S. GILMORE who have been living with their grandfather in KY for sometime returned hom. 25 sep 1890 Capt F.M. SANGAR murdered- shot through heart by half brother, George SANGAR. He leaves two daughters who attend the Presbyterian School. Interment at the ranch near Wealaka. Capt Sangar was an old citizen of Creek Nation having resided here for a quarter of a century. Sunday last Frank SMITH, of J.A. Patterson's clerks, was married to Miss Kitty LEWIS. They left Tuesday for St Louis to take in the exposition. 2 oct 1890 Married- on Sept 29th by Rev M.F.     2. 24 oct 1889 Bessie ADAIR, the three year old child of B.T. ADAIR died at the Cherokee Orphan Asylum on Friday last. Married- Oct 19th in this city, S. McINTOSH and Patsy MAHARDY. Prof E.M. CHILDS, late of Montana, and the widow MASSEY were married at the residence of L.S. BYRD, Muldrow, I.T. on Friday last New teacher, J.J. CORBERT Jr for new boys school Mrs John SANDERS presented her husband with a bouncing girl baby Sunday night last. Mother and child doing well, but John's condition is precarious. 31 oct 1889 Ed TAYLOR wears a smile this morning as broad "as all outdoors". He received a telegram yesterday evening from his wife in Iowa announcing a safe arrival of a 12 pound boy. Miss Ella ROBERSON, of Canadian District, Cherokee Nation, secured the first prize for best white lady rider, and MIss Sallie GRAYSON, Coweta, Creek Nation, secured first prize for best colored lady rider. E.R. RAULISON, won a MItchel Wagon in the Phoenix Prize Gift Died- Mrs Sally COACH after a lingering and painful illness. A member of the Methodist church and leaves a husband and children...the youngest babe two months. 7 nov 1889 Col WATTERS, of Kalamazoo, Mich, is in the city. The Col commanded the first Indian regimetn, Creeks, during the late war. He has been away for a quarter of a century Ft Gibson- Mrs Henry EIFFERT has been down ___ ___ to visit her daughter, Mrs MATHERSON. Mr L.R. NASH and wife are boarding on the hill now. Jimmie DAVIS brought in the first load of cotton for the season. F.B. SEVERS bought it. A daughter was born to A.A. ENGARTS. 26 sep 1889 Charlie THOMAS' dray team ran away.     2. 22 aug 1889 Jessie Carrey ROGERS, daughter of W.B. "Buck" & K.D. ROGERS, of this city, died on Friday morning last of acute miliary tuberculosis. She was born 28 Feb 1879 and was therefore 10 years, 5 mo, 12 days old. Jessie will be remembered by her playmates and friends, and all who knew her as a beautiful little girl, of pleasant disposition, kind, & affectionate; and the fortitude with which she bore her affliction was almost heroic. The remains were taken to Honey Springs and buried in the famly grave yard on Sunday following her death. There was a wedding in high life among our colored brethren last Monday night. Miss Ada HUSHER and J.C. JOHNSON, of the Seminole Nation. 29 aug 1889 Nina PORTER, daughter of Mrs John SANDERS, living on the east part of the city, on Thursday evening last week, attempted to start a fire with coal oil. An explosion occured and the little girl was severely burned from the waist up. On Sunday last Mr C.B. GILMORE and Miss Checky HICKEY were united in marriage by Rev T.F. BREWER at the camp ground meeting grounds at Brushy Mt. Mr Gilmore is a popular salesman at J.A. PATTERSON Co, and Miss Hickey is an estimateable Cherokee lady. The ceremony took place at the end of the afternoon services and was witnessed by a large crowd of people Sunday evening last at the residence of Dr CALLAHAN, Reb T.F.
