    3. Thank you very much for your offer of help, but I do not know where they were. I am a member of Ancestry's On Line Census images and have looked at many pages, but with no luck. The only thing I know for sure is that they were on film T623-1845, and that covers a very large area. Knowing that they were on an Indian Schedule and in Dwelling #51 narrows it down a lot, but on Ancestry it takes so long to download a census page it would take a very long time. I will probably re-rent the film and just go through it again. It should not take me so long this time as I can just zip through everything except the Indian Schedules. Once again I really do appreciate your response. Ms. Cecil V. 3. Bobby or anyone that may be interested, I am trying to find information on a family named Rogers that had two daughters that married into the Morton family. According to the death certificate for Alma Elizabeth Morton - she was born 20 June 1882, in Gore, Indian Territory, and died 8 February 1965, in Sequoyah Memorial Hospital, Sallisaw, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. Her father was George Rogers and her mother was unknown. Alma married Neal Morton (maybe Cornealus), circa 1899, their first child, William Morton, was born 20 October 1900. I found Alma as head of household with five children and Jane Rodgers on the 1920 Oklahoma Census, Muskogee County, McLain Township. Jane Rodgers is listed as 'mother', age 59, widow, born in Arkansas. I believe that Jane's maiden name may have been Quinn. Alma's sister Zonie Rogers, born about 1890 and died about 1915, married Jack Cleveland Morton on 4 August 1910, at Gore, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. Do any of these names ring any bells? I would very much appreciate any help I can get on the Morton or Rogers family. Thank you for your time, Ms. Cecil V. Boyd

Ludovic Grant ws born circa 1698 in Scotland, and died 1755 In Charlestown South Carolina. He married  ( 1 )  Elizabeth  ( Tassel )  Coody in Cherokee Nation East. Elizabeth  ( Tassel ) Coody was the daughter of KAHYUN TECHEA. Ludovic Grant married  ( 2 )  Uknown Cherokee woman of the Wolf Clan, circa 1726. She was born circa 1700.  ( Source Emmet Starr,305,466,561,563 ) Notes for Ludovic Grant: On page 466, Starr states that Ludovic Grant married a woman of the long Hair Clan; However, on page 561 and 563 he states that he married a member of the Wolf Clan. ( two wifes or a typo? ) The name Eughiootie was found in the booklet titled Cherokee Blood Newsletter-Spring 1983-Volumn,1. Her "White mans" nome was Elizabeth Coody.  ( This name is found in "Geneology of Old and New Cherokee Indian Family" by George Morrison Bell Sr. ) Elizabeth was the daughter of KAN-YAN-TEE-HEE the son of Corn Tassel, born circa 1670 at Chota City of Refuge. She also had a brother named Chief Old Tassel, who was killed under a flag of truce in 1788, and was notedfor an eloquent speech he gave at Long Island. Ludovic Grant was the "Clan Chief" of the Grant holdings in Scotland. (Note: There is controversy as to His being Clan Chief at such a young age; Around 18 years old. There is also controversy as to the order of his line. Some believe he was son of Ludovic, not John. ) After losing the war in the Jacobite Rebellion, Ludovic was captured by the British at Preston and banished to the "New World". Ludovic arrived in the Carolinas and moved in with the Cherokee. His cousins emigrated to Boston and the Carribean areas. Sir Alexander Cuming , In his brief Journal which appeared in the Historical Register of London England for 1731, described his adventures in the Cherokee Nation in 1730 when , with the aid of Ludovic Grant, convinced seven young Cherokees ( including future Chief, ATTAKULLAKULLA, "The Little Carpenter" ) to visit England and King George II . This was an attempt by the King to recruit the Cherokee to fight the French. In a statement recorded  on page 301, of the Charleston County Probate Court, in the book of "1754-1758" in a sworn statement of January 12, 1756 says, "It is about 30 years since I went into the Cherokee Country wher i have resided ever since. I speak their language". Ludovic Grant Blood Scottish. Christened: April 12, 1702, Irvine Scotland. Emigration ( 1 ) : May 7, 1716, from Scotland to the "New World". Emigration ( 2 ) : Circa 1726, to the Cherokee Nation as an Indian Trader. Note : "Indian Countryman" of Cheoah. Occupation : Fur Trader. ( Starrs notes : B-657 ) Child of Ludovic Grant and Elizabeth Coody was Mary Grant, born circa 1727 in Cherokee Nation East, now Tennesee. Mary Grant  ( Long Hair Clan ) married William Emory circa 1746. William Emory was born circa 1720 in England, and died in the Cherokee nation East. ( Source: Emett Starr, 305, 561, 563. ) Children of Mary Grant and William Emory are:        I. Mary Emory, born 1747 Cherokee Nation East. died ukn.       II. Elizabeth Emory , born circa 1748 .died ukn.      III. Susanna Emory born circa 1749 died ukn.     IV. William Emory Jr. born circa 1750 died Wills Knob Pa. Note: Will Emory Jr. was the renegade Cherokee who ran with the Shawnee and was known as "Captain Will". The name is somewhat infamous in frontier Kentucky annals because of Captain Wills relationship with Daniel Boone and an attack on Boonesborough. Child of Mary and William Emory , Elizabeth Emory, Married her second husband John Rogers Sr. Born 1755 died ukn. Blood: English. Occupation: Trader. Note: John Rogers (arguably) started the Rogers surname which include: Cherokee Chief, William Charles Rogers, Diana (Tiana) (Rogers) Houston, Wife of General Sam Houston of Texas fame and Jesse Chisolm (Chisolm Trail), son of Martha Rogers. According to the "Chronicles of Oklahoma " The interesting old "White Trader" John Rogers Sr. , departed the East with a party of emigrants on October, 17, 1817 and arriving among the Cherokee He settled on the White river on April, 18, 1818. John Rogers lived and traded with the Indians since Pre-Revolutionary War times. He first married Elizabeth Due, grandaughter of Ludovic Grant ( first known White Trader among the Cherokee ). After Elizabeth Due's death John Rogers married Elizabeth's daughter from a previous marriage, Jennie Due. They had two daughters Tiana and Martha. Tiana married General Sam Houston and Martha Rogers was the mother of Jessee Chisolm. Children of  John Rogers Sr. and Elizabeth Emory are:        I. Charles Rogers born circa 1774 died ukn.       II. Aky or Arky Rogers born circa 1776 died ukn.      III. John Rogers Jr. (Captain) born 1778 died 1846.     IV. James Rogers born circa 1782 died before 1819. Charles Rogers sr. married  ( 1 )  Nannie Downing.  he maried  (2 )  Rachel Hughes born circa 1790 died after 1851. She was the daughter of Daniel Hughes and Elizabeth Ward. Note: Elizabeth Ward is descended from a long line of famous Cherokees including Nancy Ward A.K.A. NANYE-HI-FIVEKILLER ,Chief Tame Doe,born circa 1700 died circa 1775 and the Supreme Chief of the Cherokee Nation, Amatoya Moytoy born 1674 died ukn. There was a tremedous amount of information written about Nancy Ward. She is mentioned in Teddy Roosevelt's Book on The West, the Virginia State Papers, the South Carolina State Papers, in Mooney's Book and the Draper Collection. There is a chapter of the American Daughters of the Revolution named after her in Tennesee. There is also a Descendants of Nancy ward Association in Oklahoma. As a child Nancy Ward was called "Wild Rose". Later after having been lost and having a vision of the "Spirit People" helping her find her way home, she was named "NANYE-HI" , which means "One who is with the Spirit People". Later during the battle of Taliwa against the Creek Tribe, she was chewing the bullets her husband Kingfisher was using. He was shot and killed. She then took up his rifle and joined the fight. For her heroics in battle she was named " GHI' HAU" or "Beloved Woman". Still in her teens and a widowed mother of two daughters, she was given the title of Chieftainess. As "Beloved Woman" she was a Peace Negotiator and Ambassador for her people. She became a strong advocate of human rights for both red and white men.She had a strong voice for peace and attended many between the white settlers the government and her people. She was involved in many of the treaties. Nancy Ward brought the first cattle to the Cherokee Nation. She wrote the "White Father" President saying "Our people would have more hoes, plows, seed, cotton carding and looms for weaving. They would learn you way of cultivation. If you would send these things we will put them to good use". And he did. He also sent agents to administer and help.Nancy was a Revolutionary War patriot in that she gave aid ( Cattle and Clothing) to Colonel Seiver and his men during the Revolution. nancy ward had a vision where she saw " A great line of our people marching on foot. Mothers with babies in their arms. Fathers with small children on their backs. Grandmothers and grandfathers with large bundles on their backs. They were marching West and the "UNAKA" (White Soldiers) were behind them. They left a trail of corpses, the weak, the sick who could not survive the journey". This drean proved to be prophetic. On December 29, 1835 thirteen years after her death, a removal treaty was signed. The Cherokee called this journey the "NUNNA-DA-ULT-SUN-YI". The Trail where they cried. The Trail of Tears. 1. Re: [OKMUSKOG] Muskogee Genealogical or Historical Society?
    2. I don't know if you are interested but I traced some history of my ancestors (Perryman's) reading the Dawes Commission and the Allotment of the Five Civilized Tribes by Kent Carter. My ancestors are mentioned several times and the role in that travesty of history, I cannot vouch for the accuracy of all of the information but it might shed some light on your ancestors if they were one of the tribes involved in the allotment of land.

    1. Re: [OKMUSKOG] Porter, OK
    2. I do not know the relative you are looking for but my mother is born a Perryman. However, her family is Creek and African American. There were many Perryman's around Muskogee Oklahoma. Some looked more Creek, some looked more like a mixture of Creek and African American while some looked Caucasian and went onto live their lives as Caucasian. You might find out more about your ancestry by reviewing the Dawes Commission rolls if your ancestors lived in the Muskogee area before the 1880's. My ancestors (the Perryman's) came to the Oklahoma Territory as part of the Trail of Tears from Georgia in the 1830's. Good luck.

    2. Sorry I haven't heard about the information you are seeking. I haven't been in Muskogee for years and don't keep in touch with the few relatives I have there. Just everyone I was related to has moved away.

    1. [OKMUSKOG] Re: Mitchell's-Citizenship Applications
    2. The application that you are asking about was the 1896-1897 application. Under the number of 1284 there was Anamda M. Dobbs, Annie B., George W., James M., Joel D., Samuel, S. B., William CR., and William C. Mitchell. Under the number 29 there was Alfred H., Andrew J., Docia A., John W., John., Myrtle Lee, Ollie, Robert H., and William H. Mitchell. The library at Muskogee has these applications on microfilm.

    3. Hi! I'm looking at an old letter dated Sept. 1980 in which the person writes: "we are planning to contribute two life stories to the Muskogee County History which will be published later this year. One article will be on my grandfather, William Marion Francis HESS". (William HESS was born 1867 in MO and died 9-26-1956 in Muskogee Co., OK.) Does anyone have access to this Muskogee County History that could do a lookup of William Marion Francis HESS for me, please? Thanks very much! Mary
