Woodall Family Cemetery is located approx. 2 miles South and 2 1/2 miles East of Warner, OK. (technically it's location is T11N R19E section 2.) 1896 is a census not a roll.

The 1900 Cesus Schedules consisted originally of 7 schedules. Two population schedules wer prepared, one for Native Americans and one for all other residents. The five remaining schedules are agriculture, manufacturers, mortality and crime. These are not available from the National Archives. I am not sure if Muskogee Library has them or not. They may reside in Oklahoma City. If you are looking for Native American census look in Indian Territory, Rolls #1843 through #1854. Oklahoma Territory is listed as Oklahoma, Rolls #1335 through #1344. Oklahoma did not become a state until 1907. Do not count on the Soundex to show you everything in the Census either. Sometimes, you just have to sit down and look at the Census pages one line at a time. I have not found a large number of my families even though I have their exact house address. But, I will keep looking for them. Also, I received a lot of help looking for my gggrandmother records who was Potawatami Indian from the Shawnee Office of Indian Affairs. I wish you much luck in your search. According to a book I brought The Dawes Commission and the Allotment of the five Civilized Tribes 1893-1914, The Dawes Commission was being organized between 1896-11914. The Commission did not return to Oklahoma (then Indian Territory until September 1896) to try for a third time to establish the rolls. Therefore, no rolls may not have existed until after 1896. According to the book, The Dawes Commission set up headquarters in Vinta, Okla.and was not authorized to accept applications from the tribes until September 10, 1896. You might want to buy or check out the book mentioned above. The author is Ken Carter and was published by Ancestry.com. Hope this helps.
For those who are not aware: the 1900 Ind Terr census is totally incomplete. If you find your people there that is good......but if you dont find them there that doesnt mean they werent there. That census year was so messed up and so many areas were not covered for whatever reason. If you find them in 1910, chances are that is where they were in 1900. Not always, but gives you a clue where to look for certain records such as mrg lic etc. Anyway, dont be discouraged if you dont find your people in Ind Terr 1900......means nothing. sandy
I think the book in the St Louis library is the one I did....1900 Creek Nation. I compiled most of the Nation and many libraries ordered it ........this was back in the 80's. If you cant find the book, tell me who you are looking for.....year and surname sandy
Jerri Chasteen is the list owner of the Indian Territory Roots list and she can tell you lots of things about the Indian Rolls and etc plus she's a really nice person. I have posted this message before but it has been awhile. There has been alot of discussion about Indian Rolls, census etc. lately. The Muskogee Public Library has an extensive collection of Native American materials both in books, cd's and on microfilm. Their genealogy collection is one of the best in the state. Check out their website at: http://www.eok.lib.ok.us/. Choose "genealogy" and then "holdings" You can look at the catalog of their holdings online. sue
Thank you for the replys to my earlier message. The lady I am looking for is Choctaw. She was bn in 1875. Beulah L Cantrell m Joseph W Buchanan in 1900. At that time she was from Oconee. We looked for them listed in 1900 in the Choctaw Nation. Couldn't find them. I have printed off some of your replys so I can refer to them. She applied tho on the Choctaw rolls or rather signed up on the 1896 rolls. I really appreciate the suggestions . I am not feeling well so will have to wait to go out of town to Muskogee or OK City. I will try the email address that one of you sent. I sent to the NARA this morning for a copy of the application. Thank you again. Elnora [email protected]
If you go to http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/finalrolls/ stay out of the links but go to "Index to the Final Roll.... and go to boxes and choses the box you need. Also see if you can get your library to order in on inter library loan the follow ing book "1900 Creek Nation census 1900" by the OK Roots Rescherce 1984. found my at St. Louis Library. good luck Loraine
I have the folder for the george butler from Oklahoma Historical society. I am trying to link him to us. Becuase my grandmother says that she remembers having a uncle by the name of Gee Dick and her grand fathers name was Samuel Robert. Still trying to link him to the indian rolls to us. [email protected]
Also I think the address for the index of the Dawes Roll is nara.gov. You might try that. Believe me, it is still legitimate as I have a whole line of registered Creek members and got the information on the Dawes information. Sandy
I have never had a problem with finding Dawes information. Someone has done something really stupid I think. Did you try the Guion Miller rolls?? Did you try the local LDS fam hist center and look at their catalog? I have read the Dawes and the applications and other information. Never heard such a ridiculous story and I have been researching since 1977. I worse come to worse, I can rent the index; see if her name is on it for you. By the way, she would be under whatever her married name was. Did you look for her under Buchanan? Also, are we talking Creek? Sandy
The Muskogee Library does have the 1896 census.
