Debi, While trying to locate my grandfather, Robert Sidney "Sid" Dodson , who was a "Railroad man", I was told he may have retired from the Katy Railroad. Do you know if that was The Kansas City Southern Railroad? He was born 1871 Tx so the time frame might be ca 1912, regarding his retirement. He lived in Muscogee, Ok. Would it be feasable that the Katy operated there or nearby? One of his sons, Thomas Dodson ,died in a railroad accident after 1925 . If you can shed ANY light on this mystery, I would be very grateful. Hi Sandy, I couldn't help responding to your offer of help from the Muskogee Query site. I am looking for a 1900 census record for Manuel John Harchas and his wife Mary Elizabeth Enos Harchas. Elizabeth is my great grandmother and I am having a very hard time finding any records for them in Muskogee in 1900. Except a marriage notice for my grandmother, Barbara Ellen Enos who was living with them at the time of her marriage on July 1, 1900 to George Washington Vails. So any help would be appreaceiated. Kathleen: I have tried the address for the Virtual Cemetary and can't get it to work. If that is the correct address, I must be doing something wrong or they are doing housekeeping or something. Will keep trying, because I think it would be a valuable research tool. Thanks for putting it in. Colleen
My pleasure. If there is anything I can do to help, dont hesitate to contact me directly. Sandy
Greenhill Cemetery in Muskogee has over 26,00 burials. The readings up to 1994 have been published. They are not online. Their interment records up to 1993 are on microfilm at Muskogee Public Library and through LDS Family History Centers. Memorial Park Cemetery west of Muskogee is also a large cemetery. Their interment records up to 1993 are also on microfilm and available at Muskogee Public Library and Family History Centers. MPL library website has databases of the history and genealogy holdings online at: http://www.eok.lib.ok.us/ You can contact the genealogy and local history librarian at: [email protected] Sue
Thank you Sandy. I was haveing a very difficult time, then, as you shared I began to realize this to be so. With family members unavailable to gather more family history it is difficult to complete. My JC farmer was born about 1855 and died about 1932, he is buried next to his wife Siddie SELF at Ft. Gibson cemetery, (not the military one) I have seen the marker for my self. Do you or can you get the dates exact? Johnnie in CA
For all those who may have missed it before I am reminding all that the 1900 Indian Territory census was VERY incomplete. If you find your people there that is great, but if they are not on the census, it doesnt mean they werent there. It only means that they were missed. For whatever reason there were a LOT of people missed. I have been researching since 1977 and it was about 4 years before I discovered this little known fact. I was nuts trying to figure out what was going on because I KNEW my people were there in Cherokee Nation and Choctaw Nation, but they werent on the census. So, always keep that in mind when researching the 1900 Indian Territory census. Sandy
Does it list: FARMER, SELF or MITCHELL? Johnnie
I have the 1900 Indian Territory census rolls and Ft Gibson was in Indian Terr in 1900. sandy
