Mathews, 79, were held Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 1:00 p.m. with Dean West officiating. Interment was at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery under the direction of Clagg Funeral Home. He was born January 12, 1924 in Shreveport, La. to Artis Mathews and Ruby A. Holley Mathews. He died February 23 in Sulphur. On November 28, 1949 he married Martha Strickland in Benton, Ark. He grew up in Louisiana and entered the Army at an early age, serving in WWII; special services and artillery. He served as a missionary and had moved to Sulphur from Fort Worth, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Martha Mathews, Sulphur; two daughters, Maria Oxner, and Patsy Milne, both of Keller, Texas; three sons, Kenny Mathews, Springtown, Texas, Sam Mathews, Oklahoma City and Mark Mathews, Sulphur; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons.
