    3. Mumford Johnson was a rancher who had a herd of 3,500 head of cattle located at Ft. Arbuckle. Johnson hired a young man named Samuel Garvin to manage the ranch for him on shares. Garvin met a young woman named Susan, the daughter of William Muncrief, another rancher at Ft. Arbuckle, and they were married there in 1870. Garvin and his new wife later moved to present Whitebead and Garvin County was later named after him. Mumford Johnson was a famous rancher in the Chickasaw Nation and there should be much more written about him in any western history library. 1. [OKMURRAY] Chickasaw Nation Postmasters
    2. Rebecca York
    3. Dennis, I just went to check your site to see that Joseph Franklin York was inserted in the York, I.T., Postoffice space - instead of James York - which is incorrect - as I have sent you proof - or a link to the proof, and I can't seem to find the list of postmasters you had up. Saw a list of postoffices but no postmasters. Also, out of the Oklahoma Place Names book - you will find more proof that Joseph F. York was first postmaster of York. I can copy that off for you, also, if need be. This is important to have correct info, don't you agree? In this case personally important to me, since Joseph York was my paternal grgr grandfather. Please let me know on this. It keeps getting left in the air, it seems! :-) Becky --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). 1. [OKMURRAY] Montford JOHNSON's Ranch called Walnut Creek
    2. Candace Gregory
    3. While reading "The Chickasaw Rancher", I came across reference that Montford JOHNSON's headquarters was called Walnut Creek Ranch. There is also reference to his house being near Caddo Creek and that one of his children and one of his sister's children is buried there. I am always on the outlook for a cemetery called Walnut where my gg-grandmother, Mary Ann COURTNEY (d1911), was buried. Looking at the map, it looks like this may be in Carter County, but Caddo Creek also is a little in Murray County. Does anyone know where this ranchhouse and grave is located? firegrl@sierratel.com http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/g/r/e/Candace-L-Gregory/
