Surnames: Barron Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UaB.2ACI/738 Message Board Post: Alford Jake Barron Funeral services for former Davis resident, Alford Jake Barron, 90, of Denison, Texas, are Thursday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. at Krien Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John Joughin will officiate, and burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Barron was born March 2, 1912, at Sulphur to Ed and Sallie Barron and died Nov. 2, 2002, at the Veterans Hospital in Bonham, Texas. His family moved to Davis when he was 9, and Barron was salutatorian of the Davis High School class of 1932. He attended Murray State College in Tishomingo where he met his wife, Leona Stamps, and they were married on July 26, 1933. They both transferred to East Central State College in Ada and worked their way through school graduating in 1935. In 1943 he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific as a gunnery officer. He was honorably discharged in December 1946 as a 1st lieutenant. He served as principal of Sulphur Schools and was selected to fill a 90-day vacancy as a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives from Murray County. He and his family moved to Texas in 1948, and he served as teacher, coach and superintendent before retiring with 35 years. He taught another 10 years in Oklahoma. When his mother died in 1992, he and his wife returned to Davis then moved to Denison in 1996. He enjoyed working in the garden, reading, playing dominoes and attending activities with his grand- and great-grandchildren. His survivors include his wife, a son, Alford Brien Barron of Denison, three grandchildren, Kelle Leona Fretwell, Pottsboro, Texas, Alford Brien and Alford Jake Thomas Barron, both of Denison, and three great-grandchildren, Bradley, Karlee and Arron Fretwell, all of Pottsboro, Texas. Pallbearers will be Todd Fretwell, Brien Barron Jr., Tom Barron, Jerry Fullerton and Gary Fullerton.
