Hello All; I have had another wild hair and decided to start a new page on the Murray County website called "Leading Men of the Chickasaw Nation". This is a misnomer since it will also include women, men, whites and Indians. I just called it that because I didn't have room for all this in the little menu box. Oh well, anyway, here is the link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmurray/leading_men.htm I have the first two bios uploaded already and will add more as time permits. Please do not confuse these with the Indian Pioneer Papers. Read the home page and it will be explained. Take care, Dennis

Hello All; I lost the email copy from the person who wanted a gravestone photo of one John FLIPPO. So here goes. The grave is not registered in the City Clerks database for some reason. So, Today I went to the Historical Society and looked at their "original" registry that was taken by rows and sections. I found John Flippo listed and I copied the page from the book. The cemetery book listed the grave as being in Sec. 33 South. After church I went to the cemetery and found the gravestones of the two people on either side of Flippo. But there was no gravestone for Flippo. I did notice there were two "recent" unmarked graves between the two stones. I checked the date and both men died in 1981. This would explain how they appear to be the same age and condition. I could not figure out how they could have been listed in the registry when they had no grave stone. Then it dawned on me that the deaths occurred in 1981. It was 1983 when the Historical Society did the registry. That would be only two years after the two men had died. What was registered was those aluminum funeral home markers and no stone was ever placed on either grave. As the markers were only two years old they were readable at the time of the registry. But, 21 years have elapsed since the burial and the cemetery has been mowed many times in 21 years and most likely the aluminum markers were destroyed years ago by the mowers. I took a picture of the "site" but little can be defined since it just looks like lawn. Sorry, but, there is no grave stone for John Flippo. Dennis Muncrief Host - Murray County, OK
OK Folks, One more time. There were no government bodies to make the records of Marriages, Births or Deaths in what became the state of Oklahoma BEFORE 1907. You may check local newspapers for obits, etc. The family members, if they were not Indian, got a marriage license from the federal court in Ardmore or some place like that if they married in OK. They could have gone to AR, KS, or TX to get the license. That is what my gg-grandparents did. The state did not begin to keep records until it became a state in 1907. You may also check family Bibles for these records. Records were not kept in any regular manner even after statehood until well into the 1920's and '30's. DO NOT look for an Oklahoma birth, death or marriage certificate until AFTER Oklahoma became a state!!! Dennis

I have received a package from Elgin, Texas that contains several mystery items. A lady in Elgin found them and looked for our website on the net. She contacted me by email and asked if I wanted them. I told here to send them and I would pay for the postage. Got it today and need your help. Does anyone know of the Wallace family of Dougherty, OK??? Inside the box was 2 death certificates for a Brice McKinley Wallace who died in the 1990's. Also was the funeral home bill for the wife Mollie Wallace who died in the 1980's. Also in the box was an old wedding album with about a dozen pictures of an Air Force wedding in Colorado Springs, CO. There might be some connection to the Air Force Academy there. Also in the box is a photo of three children, 2 girls and a boy, with the name of the photo studio as being in Kelso, WN. If anyone is related to this family and wants this material they are welcome to it. If you know of any relatives that would be interested in this, pass along the word. If I hear nothing from you all I will take these items to the Arbuckle Historical Society in Davis and they can dispose of them as they see fit. Thanks, Dennis
I am looking for a woman, named Thomas that married William A. Arnett .. Any connection? The later census (after 1920) has them in a county west of Sulphur with the Thomas family. ~Walter L. He died Aug. 1, 1959. There are any number of my relatives still living in Murray County. I live in NM and will try to answer any questions, and will get help from my cousin still living in Sulphur. > > >==== OKMURRAY Mailing List ==== >Need a blank form for an Oklahoma Death Certificate >http://www.rootsweb.com/~okgenweb/deathform.htm > >============================== >To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: >http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > > > >
