Sue Ann -- Technically there was no "Indian reservation" in the area. Prior to Oklahoma statehood in November of 1907, what is now McIntosh County was part of the Creek Nation, which had its own laws and government. The Native Americans there did not live on "reservations." There were more whites in Indian Territory than there were Native Americans, but they were suppose to have work permits from the tribes -- the Five Civilized Tribes, that is. You'll find these in the records of the Creek Nation. http://www.rootsweb.com/~itcreek/index.htm I'm not familiar with any birth records available this early. However, you should check the 1900 Indian Territory census for Creek Nation and see if your family was there then -- and if so if they were living in the Creek Nation. See if they are listed as Indian (or mixed blood) on the special "Indian" page of that census. If so, you will then want to check the Dawes Rolls for more information -- assuming they are listed as one of the Five Civilized Tribes. There are a few birth announcements in the local newspapers of the day -- Indian Journal was published at Eufaula and Muskogee in the 1890s and early 1900s (I don't have the dates off the top of my head). You can obtain some great research from the Muskogee Public Library for a small fee. See the Muskogee County Page for the link to the Muskogee Public Library. It has a great collection for the area. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmuskog/index.htm Some church records _might_ be available that would show an infant baptism, but otherwise you are not likely to find a birth certificate in this time period in this area. Good luck!
