Hello to all. My grandparents (John Henry and Bertha Stephens) settled in McIntosh County about 1905. They appear in the 1910 census. In 1924 the remaining family members left for Oregon. They were in Lenna in 1916 and apparently in Stidham in 1924. I cannot find them anywhere on the 1920 McIntosh Co. census, either in the images or in the excellent index. There is no indication they had actually left the county for any reason. So, my question is--how common is it for someone's entire family to be missed in the index? Is there a problem with missing people in this index? Thanks Dick Stephens
Dick, Families or individuals who moved during the time the census was being taken were sometimes missed or even counted in two different locations. It didn't happen often, but it has been known to happen. I did the index and transcription, and I wouldn't swear that there aren't mistakes in them. If I were you I'd find a copy of the 1920 soundex and check to see if John Henry and Bertha appear there. If it turns out that I missed them in McIntosh County please let me know. I'll be happy to make any needed corrections. Ron Long > Hello to all. My grandparents (John Henry and Bertha Stephens) settled in > McIntosh County about 1905. They appear in the 1910 census.
