EDITH MARIE (COWAN) STOWERS was born April 27, 1919 in Catalpa, AR to Jesse and Ida Mae (James) Cowan, and died July 9, 2001 in Checotah, OK. Services were held July 12 at the Assembly of God Church followed by burial in Greenlawn Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home. Survivors include two daughters, Billye (Davis) Bethany of Brush Hill and Peggy (Davis) Tankersley and husband Gerald of Pierce; eight grandchildren, Eva Phillips, Karen Vann, Anette Van Decar, Paul Herndon, Donna Knehr, Ronnie Tankersley, Karl Herndon, and Michael Tankersley; eighteen great-grandchildren, Bradley Phillips, Michael, Kyla and Jennifer Vann, Sheryl and Krystal VanDecar, Keith and Sara Walker, Phillip and Terri Herndon, Brett Tankersley, Travis and Kurt Knehr, Brandon and Summer Tankersley and Jeremy, Karlie and Houston Herndon; five great-great-grandchildren, Cody Hendon, Matthew Vann, Kali VanDecar, Tyler VanDecar and Taylor Vann; two sisters, Wanda Kuzmic and husband George of Moore, OK and Anna Le VanMeter and husband Floyd of Checotah. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Ruth Willis, Lillian Cowan and Velva Cowan. THE INDIAN JOURNAL, Thursday, July 19, 2001
