WILLIAMS FAMILY (From the Eufaula Indian Journal Bicentennial Edition, June 1976) Mr. and Mrs. Marion M. Williams who reside in the Brush Hill community were blessed with two boys, Jack and Cole. Mr. Williams’ family were early day settlers from Alabama and Mrs. Williams is a native of Indian Territory. The Williams began their married life east of Fame on the North Canadian River on the old Walter Starr place. They made their living by farming with the principal crop being cotton. Their eldest son, “Cole” was born in 1923 while the family lived near Fame. “Cole” rode a horse daily to Fame School. In 1929 the Williams Family sold out and purchased the General Merchandise Store in Onapa, which was located on the old Jefferson Highway, later Highway 69. Cole finished school in Onapa played basketball and was president of his class. He later married and he and his wife “Addie” are the parents of four children, Dean of Tulsa, Patricia Longcrier and Donna Poteet of Claremore and Dennis of the home. The Cole Williams purchased a farm in Brush Hill before Lake Eufaula. When the Lake covered 150 acres of the farm, Cole then developed the balance of the farm property, thus creating Brush Hill Trailer Park, Brush Hill village Trailer Park and Brush Hill Village Homes. Presently the family enjoy skiing, boating, Golfing and fishing near their Lake Home. Cole is with the Okla. Highway Dept. and serves as Maintenance Foreman, Unit 10 on I-40. On the side he still has some cattle and keeps horses around for his children and grand children to enjoy. Jack Dean Williams, the younger son was born in 1927 in the Fame River Bottom. As a small young boy, Jack Dean was seen everywhere with his father buying and selling livestock. Following his schooling, Jack Dean entered the Merchant Marines. After his tenure with the Merchant Marines, he was employed in Muskogee where he met and married his wife, the former Polly Dobbs of Eufaula. In 1948 Jack Dean and Polly went into business for themselves – the Onapa General Store which includes the service station, saddles, boots, leather goods, antiques, groceries and etc. Presently they are in the process of moving their business on the new Highway 69 located west of the present site. They also own the Williams General Store in Brush Hill. Jack and Polly have tow daughters, Jackie Ann Moore of Okla. City, and Sara Jane of the home. Jacks’ hobbies include politics, cows and in the near future hopes to find time to develop wome lake property they own.
