Kevin, there was a Jacob Cotner in the 1850 census for Cape Girardeau, he was 66 at that time so its possible that he could be the grandfather of your Jacob, its worth taking a closer look, I'll let you know if I run across anything else. Last night I went through the whole 1850 census for Cape Girardeau, Missouri, all 288 pages looking for one of my illusive ancestors.
