    3. According to the Ft. Gibson Post newspaper (late 1890s) Choc Beer was allowed in Indian Territory because its alcohol content was low enough that it didn't fall within the ban on alcohol in the Territory. Wagoner had several Choc Beer "joints". The paper reported that the Indian Agent in the area was trying to have the "beer joints" closed down. 2. Lou Gaddis
    3. Hi All, I am wondering what "choc" or "chock" and a "chock joint" might mean in the 1920 vocabulary of the region. I thought I learned all the Okie vernacular from my childhood thru more years at Okla A & M than I care to admit, but I don't get this one. It is spoken of a commodity of some sort, something you buy or have..."the dispute started over the sale or disposition of some "choc" according to witnesses.... and a chock joint was mentioned as being run by a woman, but I did not get the idea it was a house of ill-repute. "East Side Chock Joint Keeper is Shot....the queen of the East Side chock joint was shot through the breast..." Maybe it is some kind of drug or home brew drink? A google search for "chock joint" should bring up another reference to a Wyoming situation if anyone is curious enough to want to see the exact context. Lou Gaddis...actually her curious husband, Ron.
