He was born in Pierce, but he is my husband's Uncle and I did not know the obituary had been in the paper here as his remains were flown to California for burial. Hi, I noticed this lady has a sister in Bakersfield, CA. That's where I live & my grt-grands were married in Eufaula in 1900. A lot of the obits here, of older people, mention that the deceased was born in Eufaula. Many of the older people here came out in the Depression. My mom & her family as well. She said they looked like the Grapes of Wrath, even had a mattress tied on top of the car! If you are 'missing' someone who came out here, perhaps I can help. DORTHY STOCKTON 1918-2005 Dorothy Stockton, 38 year old longtime Checotah area resident, passed away in Tulsa on Tuesday February 22, 2005 following a lingering Illness. She was born on March 9, 1918 in Centrahoma, Ok to Claude Franklin and Martha Elizabeth McCarty Lynch. Dorothy married Dail Stockton on November 6, 1937 in Ada, Ok, and together they moved to the Checotah area in 1943. Dot, as most knew her, never met a stranger. She was a homemaker, but you might also see her helping Dail with the cattle or most anything around the farm. Dorothy loved to talk and visit, making friends every where she went. She enjoyed rodeos, gardening and being with her family. She was a wonderful cook, making almost everything she cooked from scratch as she would say. She raised and canned a lot of the vegetables she cooked and raised most of the meat. In addiction to her husband, preceding Dorothy in death was her son Rodger Dail Stockton on May 24, 2004, brothers, C.F., Donald, Bob & Mack, and sisters Violet and Patsy. Survivors include her two daughters, Nora and husband Raymond Smith, and Linda Stockton, all of Tulsa; brother Bill Lynch and wife Zelda of Green Forest, Ar; two sisters Norine Borum of Checotah and Elva Hamm of Pryor; three grandchildren; Laren Kay VanOrden and Tim Turner of Checotah, and Tyler Smith of Noble; daughter in law, Noram Ray of Checotah; two sisters in law's Cleva Lynch of Checotah and Joanne Lynch of Stigler; and a host of other relatives and friends . Funeral services will be held in the Destiny Center Assembly of God Church on Friday February 25, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hampton Mortuary, 211 W Okmulgee, Checotah, Oklahoma 473-6821.
