It seems to take people a while to find McIntosh County and learn how to get on the mailing list. Then some folks just ask one question and don't provide anything more about the families they descend from. There are so few resources for McIntosh County, it helps if we all will share information about the families we have. Ron we are so grateful to you for the cemetery work. Thank you! If anyone has any extracts or copyright-free material that I can put on the McIntosh County page, please let me know. Or post it here and I'll take from there. Thanks. Okay, I guess I should apologize to everyone because the incident at the LDS Library in SLC turned out to be true. But, if people would stop forwarding phony virus alerts and requests for prayers for nonexistant dying children to our genealogy mailing lists I wouldn't get so upset about it. Most of these things are hoaxes and don't deserve to be passed on. Please, just do a little research on these things, and verify that they're true, before posting them. Hello new to list because I just found out I had people around Eufala I need info on Vinson Alexander Scott in OK. about 1874 and wife Lydia A. Scott maiden name Mathews died 1883 and buried in Eufala OK. So I'm looking for an info on Scott's and Mathews that was in Oklahoma thanks Larry Worley Flower Mound, TX
I just noticed the other day that "pinpoint" wasn't searching all of the listings we have on line. Only the first parts of the longer listings were being indexed. So anyone who used the search engine before may have gotten a false negative search result. We've changed search engines to solve the problem. (FreeFind seems to be doing a much better job.) In addition, a few more names have been added to the New Mellette listing and a few more have been added to the "Partial listings" page. We've also added some 1926 and 1927 Obituaries and Death Notices that are also searched by the new engine. So drop back by and have a look when you have time, and please let us know if you have any other information that we might add. Hello, My name is Sandy Fischer and I think I have already submitted my family info. but I can't be absolutely sure so I will try again. Searching for a cemetery located in a non-existing town of BOWER, OK. called the BOWER Cem. From what I understand, it (the cem.) was located about 8-9 miles S.W. of Eufaula and my great grandfather, Wm. H. BARNES, b. Dec. 1862 in AR. is buried there. I tried contacting the Ok. Bureau of vital statistics for his death cert. and they find no such info. He died in mid April 1926. I have photos of his grave, which has only a stone marker with his name scratched in it. Could someone offer additional suggestions as to where else I could look? Thank all very much, Sandy in AZ.

I guess this will sound pretty callous but I read the newspaper and watch the news on television. If I want a news broadcast that most likely isn't even true I most certainly won't look for it on the McIntosh County, Oklahoma mailing list. If this nonsense doesn't stop, I intend to unsubscribe so I won't have to put up with it. Aggravated in California! I am searching for information on the following individuals Listed below this message:. I know that my grandmother Lydia Rebecca BALDWIN was born in Benton Co. Missouri 1898, And that her Parents William E. BALDWIN and Rosella HINES brought her to the Wann, Nowata/Washington County( Indian Territory) area of OKLAhoma after 1900. Her grandparents Elijah George BALDWIIN and Lydia Josephine REED are buried in Wann, Nowata Co. Oklahoma cemetery, having died in 1917. Lydia left a letter indicating that her mother, Rosella HINES BALDWIN died in 1904 and that they owned a very large 1000 plus acre ranch in the area...I cannot find anything to indicate either event...just the grand parents and a school enumeration for Oakdale Dist. 6, which was just north eat of Wann, Ok in Nowata County. She was enumerate with Ezra j. BALDWIN and Susanna P(Pearl?) Does anyone have any information on the following families? They show up in Scott County, Arkansas sometime between 1850-1860. Here are the relevant census enumerations: (1) 1860 Washburn TWP, Scott Co. John BARNARD 49 m w SC Cada 32 f w SC L. M. STATON 11 f w TN Mary P. JOHNSON 55 f w SC (2) 1870 Washburn Twp, Scott Co., PO Chismville Joshua BEARD 52 m w TN Farming---/$200 Cada 42 f w SC Alsby BARNARD 9 m w AR John M. BARNARD 7 m w AR Mary JOHNSON 66 f w SC I believe the L. M. STATON listed on the 1860 census is actually my g-g-grandmother Larcenia Miranda BARNARD. Cada BARNARD is probably her mother and Mary P. JOHNSON her grandmother. Cada apparently was married in Tennessee to a man named STATON before marrying (?) John BARNARD. By 1870 it appears she has remarried yet again, this time to Joshua BEARD. I am particularly interested in finding out who the father of L. M. STATON was and who the family/parents of Martha P. Johnson was. My reason for believing that L. M. STATON is my g-g-grandmother's REAL maiden name, is that according to multiple, independent family sources, her name was Larcenia Miranda BARNARD, but until now this breakthrough I have had absolutely no luck tracking her family down. I know she married my g-g-grandfather Martin COUGHRAN, CSA, immediately after the Civil War and they lived in Scott County, Washburn TWP and then in Logan County--when this part of Logan Co was formed from Scott Co--from about 1866 to 1885 when they moved to the Cherokee Nation. From later censuses I find that she was born May 1848 somewhere in Tennessee. The fact that L. M. STATON is not on the 1870 census is also relevant; she was proabably married by then. Based on this purely circumstantial evidence, I am inclined to believe that this L. M. STATON must have been Larcenia Miranda BARNARD. It would seem that she took the BARNARD surname from her stepfather. Was she actually adopted? Also, to add to the confusing mix, according to family oral tradition, this branch of my family may have been all or part Cherokee. This may explain Cada going through three husbands between 1850-70 as it is well known that Cherokee women traditionally had great latitude in matters of divorce (it was a matrilineal society.) In a similar vein could John BARNARD actually be an uncle-- a brother of Mary JOHNSON, perhaps? Also, from the 1865 AR Tax List I learn that Cada also went by the name Caty. Does anyone know if her given name was Catherine? Thanks for any help at unraveling this puzzle.
Seeking info on my ggfather, Jorell Richard HACKWORTH, d. 11 Feb 1928, Eufala, McIntosh, Oklahoma, buried 12 Feb 1928, Red Oak Cemetery, also listed as Eufala, McIntosh, Oklahoma. Per the death cert the info was provided by "Edwards KUEFER" (could have been KNEFER -- writing difficult to read). Relationship of Edward(s) to Jorell is unknown at this time. Any knowledge of this person, or of the HACKWORTH family, would be GREATLY appreciated. I am really at a standstill until I can find the parents of Jorell. Thank you. Bonnie F. [email protected]

Is anyone out there familiar with Cherokee genealogy? I have found a Clarence C. CRABTREE (Dawes # 3032M) listed in the Cherokee Roots Vol #2 and need to find out if he is related in any way to a Delila CRABTREE daughter of Rebecca CRABTREE. Rebecca married a William WHITAKER they had : Hester Ann, Kathryn, Bettie, Cassandra, Jim and Tom WHITAKER. Delilia CRABTREE married a James COX and they had Callie Hester born abt 1895 in AR, Hallie, and Lilly COX . Any suggestions or assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated, especially since I am new to genealogy research to begin with. Thank you - Dona

This message has been going around for a while and it is not true. This is almost as bad as the phony virus alerts that are constantly being posted. I wish everyone would do a little research on these things before passing them along. Please read the message below. Wes Parker KARLA KT SHAHAN wrote: > >>>> Subject: Charge for using Internet > >>>> Guess we realized the government would sooner or later find a way to > >>>> tax us for using the Internet. In response to the urgent message below regarding Internet phone charges, please see the denial from the FCC: FCC chairman nixes rumor of Internet long-distance charges Government has no plans to regulate Internet March 11, 1999 Web posted at: 9:01 p.m. EST (0201 GMT) WASHINGTON (AP) -- The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, bombarded anew with e-mails from computer users fearing government regulation of the Internet, tried again Thursday to dispel the notion. "I want to say this as clearly as I can ... as long as I'm chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, this agency will not regulate the Internet," Bill Kennard said at a meeting of telecommunications and Internet analysts. Kennard was addressing rumors that have circulated on the Internet for a long time, as well as concerns by some consumer groups. The FCC last month concluded that a computer user's dial-up calls to the Internet are interstate communications subject to federal jurisdiction. Internet dial-ups have been treated as local calls. The FCC has said this decision merely resolves a dispute among phone companies over how to compensate each other for Internet connections and how to clarify the role of state and federal regulators. The agency said the decision will not affect how consumers tap into the Internet or how much they pay. But consumer groups and others believe the action inadvertently could lead to higher charges in the future for Internet access by computer users. "It's not going to happen," Kennard said. He repeated that the FCC has no intention of making computer users pay long-distance fees for dial-up access to the Internet, as people now pay when they make long-distance telephone calls. Still, "these rumors get on the Internet that the big bad FCC is going to impose all this regulation on the Internet," Kennard said. "Now I know this painfully, because every so often when one of these rumors flares up, I get, literally, about 600 e-mail messages a day by people who are telling me to keep my hands off the Internet," Kennard added. Separately, Kennard said the FCC is monitoring to ensure cable companies providing high-speed Internet services are not freezing out competitors or restricting consumers' options for Internet service. The FCC, in recent decisions, has declined to force cable companies to share their high-speed lines with competitors. But the FCC has said it would keep watch. Kennard said the FCC is organizing meetings with the various stakeholders in this debate "so that we can get a better handle on the problem and monitor the marketplace." Consumer groups, public interest advocates, America Online and others continue to press the FCC to require that cable companies give other companies access to those lines so they can offer competing services. The cable industry and AT&T, which just acquired cable giant Tele-Communications Inc., oppose the idea. Copyright 1999 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
