GlacierThe 1920 census transcription is almost complete. Only the two EDs in Turner Township remain to be done. However it isn't being indexed by rootsweb recently, so the names aren't returned by the site search on the McIntosh County GenWeb site. In order to make the information more useful I've moved a copy to http://www.321website.com/members/home/data/ronlong/ That site is indexed by freefind which makes the portion which has been transcribed searchable. Doug: Thanks for the information, it is certainly appreciated. I will contact the Mayor when some free time becomes available later this month. I am also a displaced Okie now living in Ohio - originally from Tahlaquah - having left Oklahoma in 1955. Will be on my way to Spokane, WA and parts of Idaho tomorrow morning for a week. Eufaula. County seat of McIntosh County. Record Town for Recording District No. 12, Indian Territory. Post Office established February 6, 1874. It's name comes from the Creek town on the West bank of the Chattahoochee River in Alabama, called Yufala, meaning "they split up here and went to other places." I was wanting to add this to your information. Mary Ann
I loved the stories about the old times. Please keep them coming. I really didn't understand what the Fowler person was talking about. What have you done. loved the stories? Mary Ann

She was a real sweetheart. I just didn't know if the rest would like the stories or not. I love them myself. So I told her to email me privately. Then several others were like me and said to email them too. I think we all love stories. So she has been emailing me asking me what my private email was. She has some great stories she is going to tell us. I think someone thought something was wrong but its not. Everything is peaceful. You know how emails always look so blunt even though you speak peacefully. I never thought that I would be doing such a big project. I have had so many people really emailing me and very excited about the new homepage. I just hope I do a great enough job. I have just got 3/4 of it done- well maybe and I have been working on it for 13 straight hours without any breaks. I guess I better get to bed. About the last few things I need to do is to get some pictures for my pages. And some stuff from the Mayor for his page I am doing. I have had to write this stuff all down , since I have so many pages now. Well, my fingers are now swelling from typing so much today. Night everyone. Sandra Sheldon
Sandra, My parents both came from Eufaula, my grandfather was also born in Eufaula. I have tons and tons of data on Eufaula people and stories. My dad is still living and is a great story teller. I have little funny stories of his child hood and things he and some of the things the kids did for entertainment. One for instance was they hand a "gang"...can you imagine...that was back about 1929/30, he was born in 1921. They were about like the "Little Rascals"....I have local kids names, men in their late 70's and early 80's now that were in it....they called one the "Tin Can Alley Gang"....they didn't hurt one, did no harm, but were just a group of little boys that stuck together. I believe the other was the "Mesquito Net" gang, I will have to call daddy and ask him for sure on that one, but I believe that was it. There are memories in Eufaula that I remember as a child that visited my grandparents every summer. There are memories of places now that are covered in water. There are the thoughts that many many many of my ancestor's remains are floating around in that dirty looking Lake. Only one part of it is ever pretty and clear, the rest of the time it is red, clay looking. I have trampled through cemeteries, some that didn't get moved and some that did. I have been stuck in sand up to the front door of my car on those old back sandy roads. My mother was born out TExanna area on top of Push Hill in a log cabin in 1917. Texanna area is the road that goes down from the Belle Starr Restaurant that was in operation at one time. My grandfather was born in "Old Town". I have tons of family names in those cemeteries. One member of my dad's family on his mother's side, the Brassfields, came to I.T. in 1893 as a refugee from Arkansas where he had been accused of shooting and killing a man by the name of Bill Hamm. He was facing 21 years in prison in Arkansas and wanted by Judge Parker's Court for breaking jail. The fight with Hamm was a gun fight over cattle so family stories have been passed down and told......Abner Brassfield was his name, he was the son of Sedrick Perry Brassfield and Matilda Gee Brassfield from Ark. They moved to I.T. in the Brooken area where Abner had fled. Bounty hunters Brass Reeves and others came looking for Abner. There was a shoot out in front of the Eufaula post office where Abner shot off the thumb of one bounty hunter and left bullets in the post office door. Abner escaped to his families home and had the shackels and chains cut off by a friendly neighbor and then headed for Texas for 2 years. There another bounty hunter found him, shot him in the arm, at that Abner came back home and turned himself in and did 4 yrs in Ark. Prison and was released and went back to Eufaula and served his life out as a deputy marshall....His father Sederick Perry Brassfield and his uncle Abner Brassfield were accused of plotting to help Abner Brassfield, (JR) as they called him escape and they made many trips to Ark. to Harrison, Ark. to face the charges, but they were finally dismissed, they had posted something like $750.00 bond, each of them.....they did not help Abner Jr. he just was fast. The story has been a life time story in the family but a few yrs bk a man by the name of Art Burton wrote a book called Black, Red and Deadly, you can pull this up on the internet under Amazon.com and read a few excerpts from the book. It's great and can give you a lot of data..... I also have had posted for years on the net 'WHO SHOT GENERAL SHERIDAN BRASSFIELD", General was his first real name, but they called him "Sherd"...he was the Abner mentioned above's younger brother and "Sherd Brassfield" was my dad's grandfather and my gr. grandfather. He carries a story of three men riding up to the "tent" that he and my gr. grandmother lived in. She was Addie Belle Hinsley Brassfield. He had been to town, these men road up and hollered for Sherd to come out, he walked out of the tent and one of them shot him, he died later.....This was Dec. 29 I think from memory 1905 before my grandmother's birth, my gr. grandmother was preg. with my grandmother at the time. My grandmother had a sister that was 2 or 3 that being Matilda Melvina Brassfield Kirby...Tilda. NOW, this has been a hushed up story all of my grandmother's 65 years of her life, she never knew her real father, it has been hushed up to my father and he was very inquisitive and now I will not let it die, I want to know who shot him. There are some other Hamm families buried in various cemeteries in the Eufaula area, what I wonder, is did this family move to Eufaula area following Abner thinking they could get even with the Brassfield family and did one of the Hamms in turn kill "Sheridan"????? I have an old email addresss of [email protected] You can probably find the story written if you pull it up like that. I have it listed various places. Would appreciate a reply and see if any of my stories would be of interest to you. I am looking for information about my Aunt, Orah SIMPSON, MATTHEWS, JONES, McCLAREN. Orah lived in or around Checotah, OK., in the 1940s and 1950s. She was last married to Billy McClaren from about 1955-1958. He was in Germany in the Army during some of this time. Before this Orah had been married to Orville Jones. I believe they ran a plumbing shop in Checotah. My information indicates that Billy McClaren died (was killed) sometime after September 29, 1958, at Checotah. Orah died there in March of 1959. They were both around 40 years old at the time of death. I want to know more about Billy's death, and other circumstances surrounding Orah's death. She has no descendants, just some curious nieces. The name RIGNEY and BAKER are in some of her letters to her mother. They may figure into some of the events that lead to the death or Orah and Billy. Judy
I love stories too. Sandra
