I am trying to locate the decendants of J. Lee Young and his wife Martha E. Frazier from DeKalb Co. Tn moved out there in the late 1800's and raised their family out there. They were my great aunt and uncle. I am also trying to locate decendants of a John Frazier whose parents were Robert Ganaway Frazier and wife Mary James. They also were from DeKalb Co. Tn. I was told that John was born there and raised there, Robert Ganaway Frazier was the brother to the above mentioned Martha E. Frazier He was also my grandfather If you are a decendant or you knew any of the above mentioned people, please contact me. Doris [email protected]
Tammy, My grandmother was an Owen, but I didn't recognize any of the names in your family history. My grandmother Otta came to Oklahoma with her Parents (Joseph Andrew Owen and Susie Rachel Bryant) about 1925 from Johnson County, Arkansas. They settled breifly near Stuart, OK (Pittsburg County). They didn't stay very long at any one spot. They eventually ended up moving to Indianola, OK and then across the Canadian River to Burton Township, McIntosh County (East of Hanna). Susie died of Tb in 1936 and is buried at Hillabee Cemetery. Joseph died in 1953 and was buried beside Susie at Hillabee. There are currently several families of Owen living near Hitchita. Joseph's Parents were Aaron Owen and Jane ? Good Luck. Gary Layman "Steele, Tammy" wrote: > I am seaching for family members with the last name Owen or Owens. He married DIANAH NANCY HALE , daughter of JOHN HALE and JANE TATUM. She was born March 07, 1855 in Batesville, , AR. Notes for DIANAH NANCY HALE: Bibliography: Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Eastern Arkansas. Chicago: Goodspeed Publishers, 1890. Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Northeast Arkansas Howell Jesse Hale, a farmer and stock raiser, residing on Section 34, in Grubbs Township, Jackson County, came to Arkansas when about four years of age with his parents, John and Jane (Tatum) Hale, both natives of Georgia. John Hale located in Independence County about 1853, and of the four children born to himself and wife but two are now living, our subject and a sister, who married Mr. T. M. Owens, and now lives in Indian Territory, near Oklahoma. Mr. H. J. Hale was born January 30, 1854. He married Miss Nancy C. After the death of his first wife Mr. Hale came into possession of her old homestead, which she inherited from her father, containing 355 acres, to which Mr. Hale has added 460 acres. He now has 260 acres under cultivation and has erected upon the place seven tenant houses, as well as good barns, a cotton-gin, and saw and corn-mill. In clearing his land Mr. Hale uses such of the timber as will make a good quality of lumber for building purposes, for which he finds a ready market in the neighborhood and adjoining townships. Terry, Watson sure do ring a bell. Sarah Watson was "Grannie"...She was Grandpa William Henry Lawson's mother, she lived with Grandpa Lawson and my Gr. Grandmother Addie Belle (Hinsley/Hensley/Henesley) Brassfield, Lawson until her death in 1929. My dad, Acy T. Kimbro says he remembers Grandma Lawson and his daddy holding him up so he could see "Grannie". Daddy was born in 1921, so was pretty young. I should have printed out your note...Now I'm wondering what else you asked. Greenberry I think it was.....well hang on and I will get that to you, I will go back and print your letter and send that data too..I have it. Be back in a minute. Susan, Deere's Chapel is 4 miles West of Eufaula. It is still there. About as big as it ever was. If your Map shows Carter's Corner, you'll find Deere's Chapel at approximately the same place. Information on McIntosh County Places can be found at http://www.chickasaw.com/~ronglong/names.htm If anyone has information to add I'd appreciate having it. Does anyone know where Deer's Chapel is in McIntosh County. I can't find it on any map. Is it still around? Several of our ancestors were reportedly born there. Are there any resources available for the genealogist regarding Deer's Chapel? Your help is appreciated.
Phyllis, We may have gotten my surnames mixed up. I do not have Cargil/Carghill in my lines. They are Goodin, Lowe, Chapman, Johnson, Smith. But i have been told that my father Tom(elvis charley) Smith(b.1926) did live in Texanna as a youth. Kathy, In noticing the Old "Indian Journal" newspaper in 1928 it stated the below: Thurs. May 17, 1928, TEXANNA youth is dead as a resul6t of an accident. Houston Cargil age 22 of Teanna, Ok. died last week at a hospital in Muskogee as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident near Eufaula, Ok. about 15 days ago. He neer regained conciousness after the crash. H ewas survived by hs father Zan Cargill and a sister Mrs. Willie Carghill of Texanna. Burial was at Texanna. Kathy, the Texanna area was on one side of the Canadian River and the Fame area, Mellette, Stidham and various areas are on the other side of the river. Just thought this might be some of your Cargill family. I wanted to thank you all so very much for the info on Fame, OK Kathy
Kathy, In the New Mellette Cemetery (which is not far from Fame)---nothing down that way is "far" from each other....odd statement, but little communities were here and there, maybe you left one and just entered another, just like towns and communities of today. Located in Section 27, Township 9North, Range 15 East and every June 1 is decoration day, is listed: Burger, an infant B. Feb. 17, 1912 and Died Feb. 18, 1912 the infant is c/o B. F. s/w Chester Burgan, Chester B. March 7, 1919 and Died April 10, 1919, s/o B. F. and s/w/infant ----- Original Message ----- From: Kathy Edwards <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 04, 2000 1:00 PM Subject: Re: [OKMCINTO] FAME.... > Hi Phyllis, Thank you for the info so far.
