Surnames: Carr, Thompson Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TaB.2ACI/1113 Message Board Post: >From the Eufaula Indina Journal Centenial edition June 1976 Orgininally published on Dec 11, 1911 Eufaula Indian Journal Checotah, Okla., Nov 29, 1911 - Severs Carr, better known among semi-professional baseball players as "Chuff" died early this morning at his home near Checotah after an illness of three weeks of typhoid fever. Car was 25 years of age. Three weeks ago, though the instrumentality of a friend, Carr was induced to enter an agreement with Roger Bresnahan, manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, under the terms of which, Carr was later to sign a contract with the St. Louis team for the coming year. Bresnahan had heard of Carr through one (of) his "scouts" who had seen the Checotah man in action and had pronounced him one of the best all around players the season produced. Carr's reputation was founded upon his ability as a pitcher. Not an amateur or semi-professional circles in Oklahoma with his equal to be found. Out of thirty games in which he pitched during the season he won twenty-six, which includes four no-hit games, a record for Oklahoma. Only a few days ago, Carr received a personal letter from Roger Brenahan asking him to come to St. Louis as early in the season as possible in order that the manager captain might give him his personal attention. Funeral services will be held at Carr's late home here tomorrow afternoon at two o'clock Survivors include the wife, Ethel Carr Thompson, he was the father of the two children, the late Georgia Carr Woods and Chuffie Carr Brewer. Grandchildren are, John Wesley Wood, Linda Waters, Severs Wood, Pat Montgomery, Bobbie Sue Wood.
