My grandfather is Henry Louis Costilow, the youngest son of Jennie Lila Durant Costilow. He will turn 91 in Jan. 2004. He remembers his mother's death (he was eight years old)- not in a house fire but from a ruptured appendix. The doctor came to the house and operated on her on the kitchen table but couldn't save her. My grandfather went to live with some uncles and aunts in the area and stayed close to his oldest sister Lena.
