I'm not an expert on the subject, but I bet if they went to Hempstead they didn't go though OK. The route would have been Lamar County, Clarksville, Texarkana and crossing the Red River at Fulton AR. They might have taken the same route to Sevier, but turned north at Texarkana and crossed the Red River at Ogden AR. I don't know where ferries were located, but there were railroad crossings over the Red River at that time. I don't know about back then, but I have never seen the Red River low enough to cross by wagon. The only Red River Ferry I know about is Colbert's Ferry south of Durant which would have been out of the way, maybe. I found this information at http://www.livgenmi.com/ar1895mp and http://www.livgenmi.com/ok1895mp These are very large images and take a while to download.
