Hi, I read your post and wanted to tell you that in Kinta, Haskell County, Oklahoma Indian Territory to 1988 History Book the name Coley was mentioned twice. Bear in mind that many folks spelled names as they "heard" them or thought they should be spelled. This may or may not be your family but I would check Kinta Cemeteries, Schools, etc. before giving up on the soundex spelling of this name. Okies rarely spelled or pronounced names properly. We tend to have our own slang added such as: Ella was Eller, Zula was Zuler and so forth. I found one mention on page 125 article Ti63 Titled, History of Kinta, Indian Territory. The 4th column, second page said, Some of the early day families in Kinta were the Edmonds, Dick and Wesley Rabon, Bohanan's, Cecil and now Judge (Federal) Luther, Folsoms, Dan, later Haskell County Sheriff, Coley's, Coopers, Norris and Israel, Charlie Short and Ed Ogle families, Ridfley and Wallace Bond, and the Arthor Aldrige family. Check Census reports and land records. Many times this will help. McCurtain was fairly close to Kinta and of course the ferries stopped at Kinta also and it was established in 1902 therefore this Coley family was there sometime after 1900-1910 or after. On page 25 Article T30-The Only Way Indian Baptist Church mentions the following: Missionaries who have served Only Way have been, R.E. Anderson, Jess York, W.W. Boggan, Herbert Pierce, G. Lee Phelps, A.B. Brown, Willie Brown, Coolidge Coley, and many more follows. The Church was organized in 1929. Hope this may help. If not, pass it on to other Colley/Coley researchers.
