Green McCurtain, Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation from 1896 to 1900 and from 1902 until 1910, never lived in what is now McCurtain County, but the county was named for him and his illustrious family of Choctaws which included two District Chiefs and three Principal Chiefs. This statement of Oklahoma Historical Society, printed on page four of the McCurtain County, A Pictorial History book prepared for the 75th Diamond Jubilee 1907-1982. Lou Ann Lunsford Houston, TX
