    3. The URL for Pickens County is http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ok/county/carter/ Carter County was created in 1907 from part of the old Chickasaw Nation. Pickens County was renamed Carter County in honor of Ben Carter, prominent Native American of the Chickasaw Nation. Members of the Constitutional Convention chose Ardmore as the county seat because it was the largest town in that section of the new state and the site of a federal court during the territorial era. In fact, many of the towns and communities of the county were listed by their census district instead of their individual names. People residing in the community of Pickens would have been listed under either the "Mountain" or "Sulphur" districts ... I'd try "Mountain" first. > > Or ... tell us which names you are looking for.
