This taken from the McCurtain Gazette, August 6, 2004 Nana Dee McLeod, 90, Idabel, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2004 at Idabel. She was born June 15, 1914, in the Mount Zion community. She was the daughter of David and Pawnee Sides. Her parents passed away during her infancy and she was raised by her Aunt Nana and Uncle Fratis Sims. She married Aubrey McLeod on March 15, 1931, at Idabel. Nana Dee was a devoted mother and homemaker. She loved to cook and thoroughly enjoyed having friends eat her cooking. Nana was a very kind and caring person, and rest assured, if there was a lost or stray animal in the neighborhood it would find its way to her door, where it would be welcomed with a dish of milk, plenty of food and lots of love. She kept an immaculate home and was so appreciative of the little gifts she received from friends over the years. They would be displayed in places of honor all throughout her home. Nana had an excellent memory. Her specialty was dates, on which she had instant recall. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey McLeod; a son, Curtis McLeod; and a granddaughter, Sheila Soto. Nana Dee is survived by her son, Carmon "Mac" McLeod, Ft. Worth, TX and her grandchildren, Rita Gaitan, Saginaw, TX & James McLeod, Ft. Worth, TX: nine great-grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; several other relatives; and a host of friends. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 9, 2004 at the Norwood-Coffey-Leonard Chapel, Idabel. Interment will follow in Denison Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 on Sunday, August 8, 2004 at the funeral home. Internet memorial tributes can be made at www.mem.com
