Prior to his move he and Peter P. Pitchlynn purchase a group of salves (approximately 50 or more) and trekked to the west in 1833. There is a good possibility that one or more of my ancestors was in this group of slaves. Sam Garland and Peter Pitchlynn located in the far corner of southeast Indian Territory/Janis Indian Territory as it was known at that time which ultimately became McCurtian County Oklahoma.
