They bought out most timber outfits in the 1940's and I know for a fact that they have almost all of the publications of a newspaper called The Dierks' Industries Co-Operator. It had tons of names and stories in each publication. Megan Moholt is their archivist and she sent me 8 pages of quotes etc., containing the names I have been researching. My uncles birth announcement was in there as well as a photo of my dad and his brothers and the other local kids having a marble tournament.

However, I found her obituary there as well. It reads as follows: "Former Broken Bow resident Alma Mills Collins, 83, died Thursday, Jan 30, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born Dec 5, 1914 in Wright City (McCurtain County, OK). Collins had lived in Shreveport, LA for the last two years, moving from Broken Bow. She was a retired co-editor for the Broken Bow News, a member of the Deplphian Study Club, and the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, Taylor and Cordie Murray Mason; her first husband, Earl Wayne Mills; her second husband, George Collins; and a son, Larry Mills. Survivors include one grandson, Scott Mills of Rowlett, TX; two greatgrandsons, Brandon and Colin Mills, of Rowlett, TX; and one daughter in law, Beverly Cline and her husband, Mike, of Shreveport." Earl's card simply reads: MILLS, Earl Wayne Jul 18, 1912 Apr 28, 1978 Hope some of this helps or fills a gap or two.

I am certain that this is the same person. Her date of birth I show as 5 Dec, 1914 and date of death as 30 Jan, 1997. I also show that Earl Wayne Mills was born on 18 Jul, 1912 and died 28 Apr, 1978. I hope this information helps. Good luck. Brady

I am not researching this family, but thought the dates might be of some help. Good luck. Brady

The index indicates her death in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana AND that her last benefit was paid at a Broken Bow, McCurtain County, Oklahoma address. I'll still what is on file at the library (or maybe Brady will see this conversation) when I get the opportunity. Good luck in your genealogy!

Our library is closed today, but I did a quick search based on the information you mention in your message and found: Ethel A. Collins, born 5 Dec 1914 (OK) and died 30 Jan 1997 (LA) on the Social Security Death Index (SSN: 445-03-8405). If I can't make it to the library tomorrow, I'm sure Brady will see your message and check.

Deputies are fluid, and seem to change from one administration to another ... whether by politics, cronyism, or simply end of career. During the time period of which you are interested, the matter is further challenged by the number of "Constables" working under the authority of the Sheriff's Office. Smaller towns and communities, that did not have sufficient size to warrant (by charter or current law) to have a police department, often elected "Constables" that were the "police" for that community, but took their authority as law enforcement officers from the Sheriff's Office. Finally, the court records for this area (which would contain police reports and such) prior to 1991-1992 were all boxed up and placed in a county storage facility about 1992 or 1993. They were not (and have not since been) copied onto computer files. If I turn something up, I will of course make a posting here.

I am trying to get the Cravens family filled in on my Lane line, Davis line and Sumner line. Several Cravens's married into the various branches and I would love to share what little I have. I knew Elmer and Ollie used to visit them when we went to Keota in the summers. Grandpa Dorthy and Bill Lane used to stop by their house on the way to town or on the way back home to Possum Hollow. I played with Elmer Ray and we had fun. He probably doesn't remember me, but I remember him well. I saw him last about 5 years ago at the Walmart Store in Stigler and we visited in the parking lot for a little while. Please contact me at Donnarainbow7@cox.net Thanks, Donna Sue
