Hi, I read your post and wanted to tell you that in Kinta, Haskell County, Oklahoma Indian Territory to 1988 History Book the name Coley was mentioned twice. Bear in mind that many folks spelled names as they "heard" them or thought they should be spelled. This may or may not be your family but I would check Kinta Cemeteries, Schools, etc. before giving up on the soundex spelling of this name. Okies rarely spelled or pronounced names properly. We tend to have our own slang added such as: Ella was Eller, Zula was Zuler and so forth. I found one mention on page 125 article Ti63 Titled, History of Kinta, Indian Territory. The 4th column, second page said, Some of the early day families in Kinta were the Edmonds, Dick and Wesley Rabon, Bohanan's, Cecil and now Judge (Federal) Luther, Folsoms, Dan, later Haskell County Sheriff, Coley's, Coopers, Norris and Israel, Charlie Short and Ed Ogle families, Ridfley and Wallace Bond, and the Arthor Aldrige family. Check Census reports and land records. Many times this will help. McCurtain was fairly close to Kinta and of course the ferries stopped at Kinta also and it was established in 1902 therefore this Coley family was there sometime after 1900-1910 or after. On page 25 Article T30-The Only Way Indian Baptist Church mentions the following: Missionaries who have served Only Way have been, R.E. Anderson, Jess York, W.W. Boggan, Herbert Pierce, G. Lee Phelps, A.B. Brown, Willie Brown, Coolidge Coley, and many more follows. The Church was organized in 1929. Hope this may help. If not, pass it on to other Colley/Coley researchers. I talked to my dad today and ask him if he remembered a Light Hunkipillar, he says he remembers him. He lived by my cousin Lillian in Glover. Lillian moved about 6 months ago to Broken Bow, but I still have several cousins in the Golden , Glover area. I will be leaving April 28th to go to Glover. What information are you looking for ? I am looking for a William Martin that was possibly born in Ok. Maybe in McCurtain Co. I know 3 of his children were born in OK. James A., b. abt. 1886; Edward, b. abt. 1893; and Edna, b. 9/15/1891 Idabel, McCurtain Co., OK. Edna married Oscar D. May, b. 9/6/1885 Polk Co., AR. Edna and Oscar lived near Mena, Polk Co., AR., that is where they both died. I believe all of Edna & Oscar's children were born in Polk Co., AR. Another family researcher stated that William was born in OK and his wife (unknown) was born in GA. Any information on this family would greatly be appreciated. I have some information and I am willing to help anyone I can. Hi, When you drive into the gates at Dennison cemetery, in the back left hand corner is a small building with burial books in it. Find one of the caretakers and ask them about the Axton burial. They will look in these books. There are actually several Axton's buried there. When is it you are going down there? I would certainly love to find out about the Anderson connection. Thank You, Sandy in Oregon
I too am curious about any Andersons that are kin to the Axtons. Do you have a location for the Axton-Anderson plot in Denison Cemetery? Hoyt's cousin from Seminole and his wife are coming to Idabel and I am going to meet them and we are going to go on a tour of the cemeteries in McCurtain County hunting Axton information. My husband is kin to the Luttrells and a Luttrell married a Barnes and that Barnes is kin to the Axtons and that is how they are in my family tree. We would really love to know the location in Denison Cemetery of John Axton since I am meeting them in Idabel to begin our search. ----- Original Message ----- From: Lssurvey2@cs.com To: ssm@writeme.com Sent: Wednesday, April 14, 2004 6:18 PM Subject: Re: [OKMCCURT] John Thomas Axton According to my book of Dennison Cemetery, John Thomas Axton is buried there, in a Axton-Anderson Plot. John Thomas Axton, father of Hoyt Axton is buried in the county somewhere. The obit in the paper says Denison Cemetery in Idabel. Thad, his friend in Broken Bow says he buried in Broken Bow Cemetery on Memorial Road and now someone in Wright City says he's buried at Battiest. Does anyone know for certain where John Axton is buried?

The following email I received from the Netherlands from ShaJuan Studer-Beertema. She grew up in Broken Bow. She is searching for the following information. Is anyone out there able help her?? She writes: "I have heard a story in my family I'd like to check out. We were supposed to have had a brother of my GGrandpa who was a lawyer and he did some work in that capacity in Idabel. This would have been in the early to mid 1900's. Is there a way to search for his representing someone in the Idabel courthouse? I have asked others this and no one could tell me if that sort of information could be found or was open to the public. The reason I'd like to find him is that I'm having a heck of a time finding any information on that side of my family surname EDMONSON. Have you have any personal experience with that? The next time I'm in the USA I'll do some searching in Idabel."
