    3. The URL for Pickens County is http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ok/county/carter/ Carter County was created in 1907 from part of the old Chickasaw Nation. Pickens County was renamed Carter County in honor of Ben Carter, prominent Native American of the Chickasaw Nation. Members of the Constitutional Convention chose Ardmore as the county seat because it was the largest town in that section of the new state and the site of a federal court during the territorial era. There are three that do claim Al however. I have already mentioned the John Sharpe (19) (and wife Gladys) who also has bis brother Albert (22) living with him, but there is also a Lou Sharp (50) and his wife Lizzie. These three males claim AL as a birth State and show their parents as being from AL as well.

He first when to Woodruff Co AR, where he found a wife. He moved to McCurtain County about 1900, then to Grady County in the 1930s. Since moving to MS 5 years ago, I have found 20 or so cousins living in MS. Claude and his sister, Gaither were the only of 8 siblings that stayed around McCurtain County after the 1930s. They married a Pittman brother and sister. Gaither's son Robert Lee Pittman returned to Idabel after retiring from the US Army. He worked for DHS in Idabel until he retired. I haven't spoken to him in several years, but I'm told he moved to Tulsa.

It is also possible that it"might" have been listed under the "Sulphur" district ... I don't have my maps near me at present and memory fails me as to the district lines. The Sulphur district ran north from the Valliant/Wright City areas up towards and into the mountains in the western part of the county. I don't know if Pickens was the northern aspect of "Sulphur" or the western aspect of "Mountain" ... but a search of census records for both should reveal what you need. (I'd try "Mountain" first)
