The County was named for Green McCurtain, Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation from 1896 to 1900 and then again from 1902 to 1910. Though he never actually lived within what is now McCurtain County, the county was named for him and his family (McCurtain's) that included also two District Chiefs and three Principal Chiefs.

    3. I am researching Buford Young's family. Buford Young was born in Archer City, Texas in 1908. His parents were Crist & Martel (Myrtle) Young. Later on, Myrtle moved to Broken Bow, Oklahoma and lived out the rest of her life. That's all I know about my great-grandpa's family. It's possible that William Young was Myrtle's husband. They would've moved to Broken Bow, OK around 1930. Any help concerning the Youngs of Broken Bow, OK would be great! Thanks, Christina

Census records and local documentation confirm. John Montgomery Pitts was her oldest brother. Her father Laburn died shortly after her younger brother's birth and is not found after the 1870 Cleburne Co. census. This was his second marriage and family. My descendent Caroline Hart b. 10/21/1838 married Laburn Pitts 2/21/1861 in Calhoun Co, Al. and lived next door to her father John Thomas Hart (5/3/1782-2/21/1867) and her brother Warren B. Hart, my gg grandfather. I will be glad to share any information on your line.

    3. I was in Idabel a month ago, at the Library, in the genealogy section they have a card index file with people burried in Wheelock, I do not remember if they have one for Forest Hill. There are three ladies who volunteer their time to aid in our searches, if you contact them I am sure they will look up any information concerning the cemetary for you. Since it is volunteer, you may not catch them there when you call, but the Librarians in the front will possibly take your infor request or let you know when they will be there. When I went none of them were there, one sick, one surgery, and the others daughter was visiting from out of state. That one did take some time to come and help me and ended up staying and helping about 3 others. When you find something she was just as excited as you were. If anyone has a relitive that was arrested I have a book that gives newspaper articles, will be glad to help. I found 2 that are indirectly related to my husband.
