Damages sustained by reason of such domestic animals trespassing upon lands of another shall be recovered in a manner provided by law. For the purpose of this act, domestic animals shall include cattle, horses, swine, sheep, goats, exotic livestock and all other animals not considered wild . The term "domestic animals" shall not include domestic house pets or feral hogs. This law was initially enacted in 1965, with an effective date of 1 January 1966. Thus, it wasn't so much as when "open range" ended in McCurtain County as it was when it ended (by statute) in the State. McCurtain County doesn't have much open range left anyway, unless you count the millions of acres owned by either Weyerheuser Company (WEYCO) and the US Forestry. On the WEYCO lands, we have still have roaming herds of what are called "free range" cattle, but ... this is essentially private land. The laws for encountering as cow are slightly different than those for "open range" cattle. Maybe this helps a bit ... or gives a starting point.

Hello, can someone check the old McCurtain County newspapers for an obituary for Lousia Bushers, wife of deceased James Henry 'Jim' Bushers of Valliant. It should be in the Valliant Tribune, published in Valliant, McCurtain County, Oklahoma She died on or about November 23, 1932. I'm hoping it will tell where she is buried. Her husband was buried in the Valliant Cemetery. Was Valliant 'home' to two cemeterys called the 'Valliant Cemtery'? I was able to get the obit for her husband; Friday June 13, 1930 The Valliant Tribune, Valliant, McCurtain Co., Oklahoma p. 1 col. 1 = JIM BUSHERS = Card of Thanks: Friday June 13, 1930 The Valliant Tribune, McCurtain Co., Oklahoma p. 1 col. 4 Will apprecite any help in locating this place of burial and any additional information for Louisa Bushers. Hello New to this board. I'm looking for information on Charles Cedric Wooten. On his 1917 Draft Registraton card, filled in at Idabel, McCurtain, he gives his birth place as near Hope, Arkansas and the date of birth as Jan 07, 1897. I have no idea of when he came to McCurtain County and I have not found him in the 1910 census. In 1917, when he filled in his draft card he is self employed and in Idabel Town, McCurtain, Oklahoma. It appears from census data that in about 1919 he marries Hilde (from 1920 census) believed to be Hildegard Breman born in Iowa. He is still in Mc Curtain in 1930 and the couple then have a 9 year old daughter Charlene Wooten (born May 17, 1920). According to family records some of the family (Hill's for example) were still there in 1939 I'm looking for marriage information to give me Hilde's maiden name and her parents names as well as Charles parents etc. Accpording to census data her parents were both born in Iowa and Charles father was born in Alabama (or Tennessee -differs from 1920 - 1930 census data) and his mother in Tennessee. In 1917 he states that his father name is Charles Wooten and that he is residing in Greenville, Mississippi. Would also be interested in any other information or leads that someone might be able to provide as well. Thanks Ron Abbotsford, BC Canada (about 100 miles north of Seattle Washington)

I'm not sure if that Oma is the same Oma, but the date of birth sounds right. She was shown as being 37 on the 1930 census. Wilson was her married name and I don't know what her maiden name was. As for Delphia, I found a couple of files for the family in rootsweb but they all appear to be basically from the same researcher. In those files, it gives her full name as Delphia Florine Smith, born either 19 or 20 Jun 1919. It also indicates at least three marriages; Walker, Moore, and Green. There are a few anomalies in those files though, at least to casual viewing. One being the marriage to Oma shown as having been in 1939, but the 1930 census shows them already husband and wife. Maybe one of the SSDI files you found shows a DOB of 19/20 Jun 1919, and a last name of possibly Green (what appears to have been the third marriage).

I wonder if this could be the same person as the third wife of J.F. Smith in McCurtain County. Also I found several Delphia's with the dob as June, 1919 on the ssdi. Do you know a date of birth on her? on the 1920 census it shows that she is only 6/12 years old which it may be May, June or July of 1919. What do you think? Brady

She is also shown in the 1930 census, as follows: Smith, J.F. (head) 45 OK MO/N.Ire Oma (wife) 37 AR TN/TN Delphia (dau) 11 OK OK/TN Wilson, L.J. Oma would have been his 3rd wife, and Delphia's mother is shown to be from TN, and not AR as shown for Oma. 2nd wife Sarah (Defoe?) was from TN. I too haven't been able to find a cemetery entry for her or Oma.
