Posted on: McCurtain County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/McCurtain/1169 Surname: McCLESKEY, PRUITT, McCLURE, WEST ------------------------- I'm researching John Louis McCLESKEY between 1880 - 1900 when he lived between Paris, TX, and Mena, AR. Family stories indicate he may have had a sawmill in McCurtain Co., possibly about 1890-1895. He may have been in business with his father-in-law William PRUITT or brothers-in-law during this time. He was married first to Jane WEST who died about 1885 in Paris. He took their two oldest boys and left the area, possibly moving to McCurtain Co. His daughter Rhoda was given to, I believe, a Mr. and Mrs. McCLURE, an aunt and uncle of the child. Mrs. McCLURE was probably a sister of Jane WEST. John Louis McCLESKEY married Sarah Frances PRUITT about 1885-1890, in Paris, TX, or Mena, AR. They had 7-9 children in the 13 years they were married. Descendants of John Louis McCLESKEY and particularly his son John David McCLESKEY probably live in McCurtain Co. today, but I have not yet met any of them. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Posted on: McCurtain County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/McCurtain/1155 Surname: Wilcher, Doss ------------------------- Dear Beverly, I have pictures of Hop and Mary Jane Wilcher also Francina and I will send you copies if you will send me your mailing address.I also have a newspaper picture taken when Uncle Dulaney came from Garvin,Okla.to the funeral of Hop,he's standing beside Alex Haynes-Mary Jane's brother. It's not too clear but I'll make a copy of that too.Uncle Dulaney and G-grandfather Hop both had white beards,Med.tall and blue eyes.Hop and Mary Jane Haynes were married in Ponotoc,Miss.I believe that's in Union co.-Sept.1,1872.In 1874 they came to Texas and settled at Ferris. There must have been quite a wagon train because Francina was with them they had a new baby and Rebecca and Caroline and their husbands-also the Haynes and Harriet Haynes Cobb and her husband John.I don't know who all else but they were also driving cattle and horses. It seems that John D.Wilcher died in 1852 his Tenn. His obit was in the Memphis Eagle(a lady from Ala.)sent it to me.His will wasn't executed until Dec.30,1856.Why it was so long is a mystery whether it was that long before they found out or what???Maybe it was on his circuit or he had a daughter by a previous wife that was born in Tenn.tho she was living with he and Francina in the Ala.census 1850 she was 15 then.Maybe he took her back for a visit.Francina died July 3,1915.Mary Jane(Hop's)died Nov.26,1919 so I never knew them except by "stories".My Aunt Ruth said she remembered when Uncle Dulaney came to visit she had to get up early to make cornbread because he wouldn't eat biscuits.Francina was one of ten children. Her parents were:John Crawford Doss b.Apr.17,1815-Giles Co.Tenn.and Catherine Caroline Bain b.Oct.12,1823in Tenn.I wish you would send me your phone no.too.I love hearing from you.Be sure and send me your source on John D's parents when you have time so I can try to go on from there. Bye now,Peggy

Posted on: McCurtain County, Ok Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/McCurtain/1152 Surname: Wilcher, Speck, Doss ------------------------- Hello, Peggy: I enjoyed receiving your response. I never met my father's mother, that I remember, because she died in Aug. 1938 and I had been born in April of '37. She was the Mattie Alta Wilcher before she married Harvey Scott Speck; so, you can see I am really almost envious that you actually saw David Dulaney Wilcher and you say that he and H.T. (I believe my father called him Great Uncle Hop) resembled each other so much. Could you describe them for me? Were they tallish or shortish, color of eyes, facial bone structure, etc.? Also, do you have a picture of him. And what about Francina? What was her appearance like? Did she attend that funeral also? I looked back into some of my notes and I found GARVIN: Forest Hill Baptist Cemetery-- drive south 3 or 4 miles across rr tracks turn to left at brick house and drive 4 more miles. This note was taken probably almost 20 years ago. I suppose the trip begins at Garvin on HWY. 70. I have never seen an obituary for D.D. Wilcher. I wonder if Idabell had a newspaper then or if the church would have something. I think I'll go make a response to that person who wanted info on Louis Brown and Lilly Wilcher. On my tree I have John Wilcher(b. VA. 1758?) and Polly Watkins as the parents of John D. Wilcher. I don't remember my source, I'll have to look it up in my notebooks. Do you know what the D. stands for? Are we to assume that it is Dulaney. What more do you have on the Doss family? I have zilch. Beverly
