She said that Grandma Stewart was her Sunday School teacher and that the Baptist church use to be behind where the stores are today. She said that their daughter was Mrs. Sam Jones and she had Virgie Jones Pearce, Arlie, Volie and Leroy. And that their house used to be where the new Baptist Church is now. said it was a great big old house and had a porch all around it with a porch swing. Mom said that Mr. Tom Stewart was a big strapping man and wore a big black hat. He had a horse lot with cattle and he owned the merchantile store there in Tom where the Sr. citizens place is now. She said it was a big store and they use to have lodge meetings upstairs. She said he also had a gin down on the creek that use to run through Tom. He also farmed. Mom mentioned a Mrs. kilgore that was widow there in Tom and had one son and latter married a Mr. Scott, not sure how or if they are related. Mom said that Tom got it's name from Mr. Tom Stewart and that he was the first postmaster for Tom in 1903. Also, that there was a little town named America and it was named after Americus Stewart. There isn't anything left of it now. But the communities around the area of Tom were Janis(Garland Farm), Pecan Grove (Jones Farm), Pine Ridge, Pine Creek and Clear Lake - that whole area became known as Tom. She remembers Mr. Eddie Stewart well. She said that he always had a car and would take people where they needed to go. She said that Eddie married Lucille and they moved to Pasadena, CA. - Mom lives in CA. too not too far from there. He and Lucille divorced, but get this, a friend of Mom's worked with her second husband and I think at one time their daughter lived in the apt. complex where my Uncle was. Anyway Eddie moved back to Tom and later married Pearl Parks and when she passed away, married Rose Groves. Mom said that she knew of some Greens that lived at ClearLake and that eddie Green was a really good friend of my Dad - Jude Miller - are those Greens related to you? Who is your Aunt that you refer to and did she live in Tom? If so, does she remember Mom? The Stewarts are buried in the Tom Cemetary. That is where Eddie is buried along with Tom and Maggie. Hope this helps. Let me know if there is any other info that she might help you with. She is 84 yr. old but there is nothing wrong with her memory - once you get her started she just goes on and on! He was born in Selmer, McNairy County, TN 11 Apr 1860 and married two wives and raised a family in Madison County Tennessee. I was told he marrie for a third time to a Zora Witten/Whitten?--no dates or place. I have his date and place of death as 23 Sept 1932 in Idabel, McCurtain Co, OK. I do know he was buried in Little Rock AR. I have seen his grave. I was also told that he possibly worked for the railroad. I have hit a brick wall with this ancestor. I am will to with to the County records and request a death certificate even without verification at this time. Do you know the cost?
