Hi, I am trying to trace my Morgan and McKinney family roots. Ames, OK seems to figure very prominently. My grandparents lived in Ames, OK. They were Theron Morgan and Lida McKinney. His parents were Abraham Lincoln Morgan and Isabell Wallmer. His brother John Morgan was married to Meda and also lived in Ames, OK. Abraham's mother was Olive. Stories go that her husband's name was Benson, but I can find nothing to verify that. I have also been told that there was a daughter named Clara but have no details. However, I am running into a family story about Grandma Morgan (she may have been Deborah T. Caldwell Morgan) giving $100 to help build a Methodist church in Ames. I have heard two details--that this was in Ames, OK and Ames, KS. Can anyone verify this story or correct details? Theron was born in Kansas I am told. Is there a connection between these two towns? How did Ames get it's name? Does anyone know? Also, my great-grandparents on the McKinney side lived in Ames, OK. They were Samuel Timothy McKinney and Julia Etta McKinney. Can anyone tell me if they are buried in the Ames cemetery? How can I go about finding out? I am new to genealogy and realize I should have started recording information before my grandparents died, but I waited too late. Any pointers or assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!
