Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JaB.2ACI/390.1 Message Board Post: In reference to finding the actual location of Leslie, Woods County, Oklahoma Territory, in 1899, I checked the "Standard Atlas of Woods County Oklahoma" (Geo. A. Ogle & Co., Chicago, 1906). On page 7 is an outline map of Woods County, apparently as of 1906. Many post offices are given on the map, but I do NOT find Leslie. That may very well indicate that by 1906, Leslie was no longer in existence, OR it was missed in the map preparation. I also checked the Major County History (Gloss Mountain Country, Major County Historical Society, 1977). On page 500-501 is a map labeled as "Post Offices in Major County". No date is given for the map, but it DOES contain post offices that are NOT in the future Major County portion of the 1906 Woods County map referred to above (and have NOT been in existence for decades before the 1977 publication date) . However, again, no Leslie Post Office is shown. One more suggestion is to try Alfalfa County, Oklahoma, as it was derived (in 1907) from the northeastern portion of the original Woods County, whereas Major County was derived (in 1907) from the southern portion of the original Woods County, Oklahoma Territory.
