If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract someone's attention who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for what you are posting. I do want to thank each of you for your support of me. I remember the day I decided to adopt ONE mailing list, I was so scared. Today I am the proud List Mom of 84 of the best lists out there. Linda where is the Pleasant Hill cemetery? I was raised in Major County but don't know the name of the cemeteries there. If it is around Fairview I may be able to check it out for you. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Linda Walls" <lwalls@ix.netcom.com> To: <OKMAJOR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 25, 2000 7:54 PM Subject: [OKMAJOR] Pleasant Hill Cemetery > Hello listers, > > I am still searching for Edward Walls who is buried in Pleasant Hill > cemetery. Hello listers, I am still searching for Edward Walls who is buried in Pleasant Hill cemetery. His death date is shown only as 1937 on a list of Major county cemeteries. Would anyone know who has the records for that cemetery? I'd like to know the complete date. I've been using the FHC at the LDS but they have very little info on OK. I haven't had a chance yet to go to the archives to view the census. Linda W.

I lived within 3 miles of Phroso which is labeled a ghost town at this time. There is nothing there except a cement base where a store used to be. I am not that old but I attended a Baptist church at Orion which was about 6 miles from there. I don't know of a Methodist Church but there could have been. This Baptist church just celebrated their 100th anniversary a couple of week ago. Wondering if anyone has information about what churches were in Major County during the period just before statehood....specifically the area around Phroso...as I had a grandfather and great grandparents who lived there during that time...and the Grandmother's obituary mentioned how she joined the Methodist faith..when she was fourteen...but never mentions a church there in Oklahoma...any information about churches in Major County during that time and whether they are still there would be most appreciated... Katie Goldsbury Horn
Nancy, A very large Thank You for the help with the Dixons and T.V. Strong. It is greatly appreciated. Thomas Vanburen Strong is from the Virginia Strongs traced back to the eastern part of that state in the late 1600s. There might be a connection to Elder John Strong's clan in the northeast, but if so, it hasn't yet been found. Thanks again, Russell

There is another valuable source of information on residents of the Ames/Drummond area. Lulu Allen (a step-cousin of mine) kept a scrapbook from 1915 through ther death in 1991. It includes many marriage announcements, anniversary announcements, obituaries and various pieces of information on many of the local residents. Unfortunately, she trimmed the newspaper clippings so the dates of the notices are difficult to identify. Upon her death, the scrapbook was donated to the Drummond Historical Society. There is an 1974? obituary for an Evia Ann Dixon as follows: "Lahoma - Evia Ann Dixon, 81, died Friday afternoon following a period of ill health. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in the United Church of Lahoma with the Rev. L. Sam Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Meno, under direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home. Mrs. Dixon was born Nov. 25, 1892, near Lincoln, Neb., and mae the run into Oklahoma with her parents at the opening of the Cherokee Strip, settling on a farm southwest of Lahoma. This is where she grew up, attending school as Pleasant Valley. She married Otto E. Dixon June 16, 1912, and they made their home on the farm until 1960 when she moved into Lahoma. Mr .Dixon died in 1932. She was a member of the Meno Christian Church. Survivors are three sons. Spencer and Theron of Lahoma and Ercel of Medford; eight grand-children and four great-grand-children. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, a sister and two grand-children." Hope this information helps. Na

Robert, I assume that you have seen the 1977 (actually no copyright date, nor title page, nor publisher, but I wrote August 2, 1977 in my copy) book about the history of the Okeene area, entitled, "Blue Skies and Prairie". Obviously no index, either, BUT, it does have feature stories on the following Nusz names or families: Andrew Nusz, Ben and Mollie (Koch) Nusz, George Peter Nusz, Harry Nusz, and Virgil Nusz. I graduated from the Okeene High School (1957) with two members of the Nusz family (whose addresses I still know)and there were a number of Nusz family members in high school at the same time. Let me know if I can be of any assistance. By the way, I would imagine that Rootsweb also has a discussion list for Blaine County, but I've not checked. I'm looking for the DIXON family of Major County, OK. They were there beginning shortly after 1900. William Dixon m. Mary Florence Strong in 1866 in Reno Co., KS. I don't know when William died, but Mary F. Dixon's name is on a quarter-section of the Major Co. Township Map of (I think) 1907. She is listed as a widow on the Woods Co., OK, 1900 census. The Dixon children are Ralph E., b. 1887; May, b. 1889; Leo A., b. 1891; and Adda J., b. 1893. Also living with Florence and her children was her father, Thomas Vanburen Strong, who d. Dec. 17, 1912, and is buried, according to information I've been given, "in the Dixon plot, Block 2 Lot C in Ames, Oklahoma." I don't know the name of the cemetery. Anyone know anything about these folks? Thomas V. Strong is my gggf. Florence's brother William is my ggf. Thank you, Russell Laird rlaird@1starnet.com
Robert, Sorry to say Hoffman is my married name and my husband has no known relatives. Bessie
Hi, In the time of 1960 - 1965 there was a Nusz family living in Enid, Garfield County. The only thing I know is a Ruth Nusz who was studing to be a nurse. We left Enid to join the Air Force and thus lost touch. Bessie Hoffman
Hello Bessie Hoffman, Are you any relation to a Eunice Mae Hoffman who married into the Adam Rusch family, Okeene, Oklahoma. If so, would like to hear from you directly about the Adam Rusch / John Rusch family history that you may have. Thanks for the information on Ruth Nusz, will research further. It seem as though I rember a fellow who worked at the hardware store, He was refered to as Big Henry and I think his last name was Walls. For those of you who are looking for land owners prior to 1940, You might look at the historical society. There is a large map of Major county, It was put out by the Mike Dage Agency ( i appoligize for the spelling of the last name, just not sure) however this map is very extensive and fairly easy to read. If any one happens to run across a George Washington Jones of the Cleo Springs area, I would like to know.
