    1. [OKMAJOR] From List Mom - Happy Thanksgiving 2000
    2. Kathleen
    3. Tribute to our Ancestors on this day of Thanksgiving. THEY did not choose us, nor we them; we never knew them, nor they us; yet we are inextricably bound together for all eternity and there is no law in the universe, no metamorphosis physical or spiritual, that can ever alter this inalienable truth. OFTEN we may wish for different ones and feel moved to deny the ones we have, but this is as futile as it is foolish to invent spurious ones, for our deception will surely be unmasked, if not by others, ultimately by our own conscience. WE owe everything, our very existence, to our ancestors, and yet we know next to nothing of them because mostly their lives were so humbly recorded. It is good that we seek to expand our knowledge of their lives so that we may better understand our own. THEY made us, body and soul, and we must accept without complaint or rancour what they were and what we are, for nothing and no-one can ever change this fact and it is barren folly to dwell obsessively upon it. WE recognize that the legacy of genetic inheritance is a double-edged sword. We should be grateful for those gifts of personality and disposition our ancestors bestowed upon us which we find beneficial and not rail against those traits we find less appealing, for it is surely in our own hands to change them. WE should take pride in our ancestors and their achievements wherever possible, whether high-born or low, rich or poor, prince or pauper, and not seek arbitrarily to revile or condemn them for acts of which we know nothing of the causes. WE must learn from them, from their mistakes as well as their successes; from their tragedies as well as their triumphs; from their sins as well as their virtues; from their hopes as well as their fears. POSTERITY and history are irrevocably interwined in the present. No coherent vision of the future can exist without an affinity for the past and cognizance of the lives of our forebears. REMEMBER that we, too, are the ancestors of those yet unborn and we should seek to leave for them a heritage of which they can be as proud as we are of that which our forebears bequeathed to us. WE bless and thank our ancestors for the legacy of the good things they gave us, forgive them their errors and pray that we will endeavor to use wisely the knowledge which they handed down to us. © Roy Stockdill 1997 My best wishes to each of you and yours on this Thanksgiving day. 1. [OKMAJOR] Dyes....
    2. Ellen
    3. Jerilyn, I don't have anything on your Mahlon Dye, but am researching the Dye family. I see by you tagline that you have Dyes back to the early 1800's in Ohio. I am looking for 2 different Dyes (who may or may not be sisters): The first is ? Dye m. John Kimler 1784 Virignia The 2nd is Philena Dye m. Benjamin Cox. She died in 1827, BLooning Grove, McLean Co, IL. Benjamin died 1825 in Walnut Twp, Pickaway Co, OH. Philena moved to the land in Illinois that Benjamin had gone out in 1825 and had purchased. He died upon returning to Ohio to take his family out to Illinois. Philena Dye Cox' daughter Mary Cox m. ? Dye Kimler's son John Kimler, Jr. It is said they were cousins. John Jr. (who lived in Indiana) helped Philena move to Illinois and farmed for her. Then he married her daughter. Oh, I have a third Dye: Jackson Dye (John Dye and Sarah Guin?) m. Emeline Shears 1852; m. Elmira J. Brink 1859; Susannah Carter 1862 Gentry Co, MO; and m.Ida S. Beirns 1901, Mt. Ayer, IA. Jackson died in 1909 in El Reno, Canadian Co, Oklahoma, but is buried in Isadora Cemetary, Worth Co, MO, with Susannah Carter. He was in the Co C, 18th Missouri Cavalry. He was b. in 1830 in Green Co, Pennsylvania. I don't know when and why he went to Oklahoma. In 1900, he is on the Missouri Census in Worth Co.; however, that is the year the Susannah died. At least two of his children died in Oklahoma, so that may be why Jackson was in Oklahoma. Jackson had a brother named Jasper. 3. Hello list, My search for descendants of Alex. Smith of Scot. & his wife Isabella Munro has led me to your fair state. The Smith family came to Jacksonville, IL abt. 1852 and their dau. Jane married there one George Cousins in 1876. George & Jane are listed 1910 census in CROWELL twp as farmers and their son William F. also in Crowell aged 34 years. I am interested in finding the marr. of Wm. F. Cousins - if he did marry. Also, I would like some advice on Crowell township which does not now seem to exist. Mayybe some knowledgable Majorian could tell me about this town - it's present name - how its farmers were affected by the disasters of the 30s etc. I know that Jane Smith Cousins was alive in 1911 and died before 1929. Also I know that her son William F. Cousins (or Cusins) was alive in 1932. Any help much appreciated. Marion

    1. Re: [OKMAJOR] Armstrongs Fairview
    2. Jackie, It is possible that I could offer some insight into the Armstrong family, although not directly to your Grandfather. My aunt married Claude Allen Armstrong shortly after graduating from Fairview High School in the late 1930s. His father's name was Claude, quite possibly the Claude Henry Armstrong you mention as being your grandfather's son, although I have no knowledge of his middle name. As a boy (I was born in 1934) I knew the family fairly well during the 1940s when they resided in Fairview, OK. Later, probably in the late 40's or 50's, the family moved to Portland, OR, or so I recall from information from my aunt and cousins. This may be information that is already in your possession, and I won't bore you with any more at this time if you already have it. It is also possible that I may be able to put you in contact with my cousins who I would think might have considerably more knowledge than I do. I would want to contact them and obtain there permission to give out any e-mail or snail mail addresses prior to doing so. I also have some marginal knowledge of a Lankard family of Major County, OK. If you think that I may be able to help you in anyway, you may contact me at: RA54140534@aol.com I hope this information will be of help. James R. Sullivan, Houston, TX

Second marriage children were Myrtle (my mother) and John. His sisters Sarah Ellis of yale, Ok. and Olive Dewhirst of Kansas. His other sister was Mary Lankard of Fairview. Can any we tell me where to go to find out about the run and land he owned in Blackwell and Fairview. I have checked the sites for the runs and can't seem to find any information. Also about his days as deputy sheriff. If anyone can help will truly appreciate it. Will wait to hear. Thanks for your time. Jackie -- mailto:jlamorie@earthlink.net
