Dorothy, Good news! I am a Louthan descendant and have quite a bit of information on the Louthans. Lillie Dell Louthan b. 3 Aug. 1901, Chester, Woods co., OK (Major Co. was not formed yet) d. 29 Dec 1975 San Antonio, TX. Buried 6 Jan 1976 Evergreen Cemetery,Devine, TX. I don't have a marriage date for her and Coy Ricord. Lillie's parents were John Cope Louthan and Mary Ann Elizabeth Hale. John and Mary were married 30 March 1884 in Grantsville, MO. This was John's second wife. I am descended from the first wife, Anna Jane Haddow. John's parents were Hiram Louthan and Harriett Matilda Hayes. John had two brothers, James Fife and Oliver Perry. He had two sisters, Sarah and Margaret. Sarah died young. They were all born in Columbiana Co., OH. Hiram's parents are unproven. Harriett's parents were Edmund Hayes and Sarah Whitacre. If you want to write to Mary Ellen Louthan, RR 2 Box 65, Seiling, OK 73663. Her husband, Ernest, is a direct line descendant from John and MaryAnn Louthan. She is where I received most of my information. Good luck with the Ricord line. have you written for a marriage record? All I have on them is a note that they had 12 children. Most of the other children were married in Fairview or Taloga, OK. Norton land record - N 1/2 of SE 1/4 & SE 1/4 of SE 1/4 Section 11, Township 20N, Range 11W Isabella Cemetery, Isabella, Major Co, OK - NORTON, Albert G. 7-15-1858 - 3-20-1918 NORTON, Mary M. 9-16-1862 - no dates (possibly about 4-25-1962 Could not find obits for either Albert or Mary but found a mention in the Isabella column of the Fairview Republican May 10, 1962 - Funeral was held at Nazarene Church in Isabella Tuesday April 27 (this is where I got the date of 4-25-1962 as possible death date); laid to rest in the family plot at age 100 years, 7 months, 9 days. Gloss Mountain Country, A Major Co. History (available for $35 plus postage from the Major Co. Historical Society, PO Box 555, Fairview, OK 73737) pages 172-174 - Alfred Boice Isbell (family story) - (excerpts) Mary, Alfred's half sister, married Albert Norton, a boy from a wealthy family in Denver, Colorado, who had run away from home to be a cowboy in the new country. He was a very good, kind man. Hard-working and kept his place in perfect condition. They took a claim next to Catherine's. [Catherine Teal Isbell was Mary's mother by a previous marriage.] He was also a carpenter, and taught his nephew Alfred, the trade, since Alfred was not a farmer. Albert and Mary Norton had two children, Kitty and George. Kitty was about my mother's age. They went to school together and Myron Isbell was their teacher. Kitty married Rush Bender, who came from a very good family but somehow never seemed able to make a living. He worked as a farm hand, and later worked as a clerk in the little country store. They had no children. George married Louise, a German girl. They bought a corner of Uncle Charlie's land, and were our nearest neighbors. They had beautiful children, Olive, Mildred, Lucile and Herbert. George was a "would be" inventor. Always fooling around with something dangerous. Finally blew his ears off. An invention that went wrong. Catherine Teal Isbell (family story) - (excerpts) In the year 1893, Catherine Teal Isbell waited at the Kansas Border for the sound of the shot that would start the RUN into Oklahoma Territory. With her were her five sons and two daughters. The daughters were married, Mary to Albert Norton and Lizzie to Melt Kettle. Melt was already a successful young farmer in Kansas and decided to stay there. Mary and her husband went with her mother. The sons, Myron, Henry, Wilbert, Alfred [father of lady writing story] and Charlie were anxious to start a new life... Grandma Isbell (Catherine) had lost two husbands. The first in the Civil War, the second, due to injuries received in that war. Photos of Catherine Isbell & log home & Albert, Mary, Kitty Norton, Rush Bender on page 174. Phot of Albert Norton and Isabella's first mail wagon on page 175. Photo of first school in Isabella, Okla, 1896 - Katherine (Kitty) Norton, Rush Bender, George Norton included. Good Luck. I talked with a Bill Bushnell last night but he didn't know anything about HUGHES - he wasn't the Bushnell in the obit. I talked to Frank Beavers widow also and he died in thee 40s. All she could remember (she is hard of hearing and I'm not sure how her memory is) was that her husband was there when HUGHES died and it was "quick". She thought there was some Hughes family but wasn't sure. I'm sorry that's all I found. I'll try to ask around some more but the people who would know anything are all dead now. Pat Weaver, Major Co. Does anyone have a cemetery book for that cemetery? Would you look for me. He died August 14, 1916 and his wife Emily Josephine(Cole)Allen was also buried there. I would like to know if they are buried there or in another cemetery. I have looked and can't find a Ringwood Cemetery listed in the cemeteries of Oklahoma. Thanks
Jim: You are probably right about having gotten the birth certificate at a later date. My daughter has my Kersey records for a school project right now but will check it out as soon as possible and let you know. My grandfather made the 92' land rush along with his mother and two brothers. They all had claims around the Fairview area and my dad and I were born on the land Russell Hill Kersey (my gfather) claimed just at the west edge of Fairview. Good sharing with you. More later on the birth certificate. Earl Kersey
